Actually as a CIRA director, you don't work for anybody but the community as a whole. It's more a volunteer work which requires about 10 to 12 days a year (yes, YEAR!)

Actually nothing wrong, but as a CIRA director, he or she must have, among other things, a) professional experience and education and b) the ABILITY to represent the interests of a particular community of people or organizations who are stakeholders in the Canadian Internet. The latter in particular makes it difficult for a young amateur to the industry to qualify. Having said that, a university student does have some advantage in clearing conflicts of interest as stated in CIRA's fnancial association between directors policy. ;)

By the way, Jason Chan (the univeristy student candidate) was actually competing head to head with the systems administrator from the same school - University of Waterloo! (Both lost.)
