I've never understood a chat facility on a forum.

Forum discussions are there for reference, where the chat stuff just goes into the big blackhole.

Lats...

Lats...

Exactly, Forums are for archiving of users experiences and knowledge. Chat comments are lost and gone in a flash. Plus very few are able to comment in chat as there are usually only a small number there at any given time, whereas the forum allows hundreds of us to read and comment over a long time period.

Another problem with Chat is its either too confrontational or the other extreme, too clicky with a very small circle of close friends. It's likely there will be open hostility or the opposite extreme, too much agreeing just because someone is a chat pal.

I like the chat actually... yes it is true what was said is lost but you do learn very quickly. Whichever works :)

the chat is actually a much better place to exchange ideas and to come to conclusions quickly. also, there is less chance of minunderstanding because people can clarify instantly.

i find the chat to be generally more useful and than the forum.
