I've contacted the owners of a couple of domains I'd like to purchase. All the domains are parked. Some though PM here on the forum, some though the email listed as the WhoIs email contact, and some though the contact form on the parked page.

Not a single person has responded. If you're not selling, at least say "Sorry, it's not for sale" or something similar.

I always leave my name and with people I think might be members here I also tell them if they are a member here (on DNF) that they can send me a PM (with my username).

Not a single person has responded. I don't think my emails look spammy, in fact, they're short and to the point, no BS or appraisal requests with them.

It's quite frustrating.

I think most of the contact data is outdated and old. I have had numerous emails bounce back as undeliverable.

Try again and I'll respond. ;) Which names were you wanting now?.

But I hear you. I get that myself as well and for those who do respond they want an outrages amount for the name.

Ditto Draggar.

I understand that people don't respond to spam or offers that are outrageous, but some have even PM'ed me first, then I've responded and then I don't hear back from them again. That's just rude..

I've grown to expect no response. It's pretty standard practice for better or worse.

When I have funds to buy a name or two I usually find at least ten targets and hope to get one. If I don't get an initial response I send a follow up email with an offer in the 60-70% range of my absolute top offer to show my level of intent. Usually it is still too low but sometimes they respond and a sale is made.

It's better than people spamming you about purchasing your domains, you negotiate for days with them, get to a price that they are comfortable paying, then they tell you that they don't have the money to buy the domain. This seems to be very common for me these past few weeks.

If whois data is old and has not been updated, ditto for the phone call...no longer a serviceable number.

I have found that, deciding how much I am willing to pay, and sending that 100% offer, often works; and, it saves a great deal of time for both parties, regardless of how it ends.

I also say, in a friendly manner, something to the effect that "This is my highest offer."

Moreover, if a sale is made, I feel good about the deal, and the sellers also seem satisfied.

Do not be attached to getting the domain, and do not try to get something for nothing, and it will change your perspective.

Sadly, they have (area code) 555-1212 numbers (common number for information) in the WhoIs - but I might be able to find their # though a phone book.

Yeah, I may do that if I don't hear back from the latest one in a few days. The thing is that I like these domains and could use them, I missed out on one auction (the domain went for $1700 - far more than anyone (except the bidders at the top) would go for. I'm trying other TLDs now.

I already have a very god domain but these would be great. Maybe I should just sit back and expand the sites on the good domains. :D

They probably assume you aren't willing to pay end user prices and choose not to waste time.

I've yet to get a reply from Schilling and I've emailed him about several domains.

I gotto laugh i sent an email to another domainer from Korea introducing myself and he responds with "i do not sell to individuals but only to companies" the best thing the domain is on sedo so he would not even know where an offer came from if he got one, what an idiot !

Same here, I have had similar experiences. So I think the whois emails get so much spam that people start to ignore them.

Some people own thousands of domains and get hundreds of emails like it a day. So they stop responding, if the email doesn't at least show a decent offer for the domain.

Bingo.
I have to say I am guilty as well. Depending on the domain and the mail, I may respond or not respond. Most of the time, you don't even hear back.

 Someone ought to teach him that "all money is green".

I don't care where the money comes from. Like I have in my signature... "men lie, women lie, numbers don't lie" - and money talks!
