31 in the "Octal" [base 8] number system = 25 in the "Decimal" [base 10] number system. Hence, Oct 31 = Dec 25.

This is very clever - I was a math teacher for many years but had never heard it before. :)

It should be 31 OCT (octal) = 25 DEC (decimal)

And it's a programmers' joke, not a geek one :D
