Just a thought that came to my mind.

Really bad example ... but I am making a website and was considering how to brand it on business cards etc.

If for example you have branded your websites as WobbleToys.com and you have bought the domain ToyShop.com for SEO etc, Why don't more sites utilize a catchy logo with both domains on?

In my case I have a brandable name - but on the face of it it could look somewhat unprofessional I suppose. I have also bought the 'search term' .com

As such I was thinking of having the logo and BOTH domains on the business card.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Brand dilution and confusion. ToyRUs owns Toys.com and they market ToysRus on there... yet not in reverse. There is no Toys.com marketing on ToyRUs.com. Trying to kill two birds with one stone via dual branding can be more damaging and self-defeating.

Let's consider that 50% of visitors go to the branded name and 50% go to the generic seo domain. If the goal is a certain level of reaching critical mass... you have made that goal 50% more difficult. It's like Facebook.com buying Face.com... it would hurt the strength of their brand.

What you can do is say... WobbleToys.com... ToyShop.com Company.

Our buy a name that is not in direct competition but more of a lateral one.

My 2 cents

Very decent point...

It is somewhat a case of from my domainer point of view, I am 'proud' of the SearchTerm.com domain that I own - yet the idea was one of my first, the brandable name is like a child to me.
