I was considering trying DS for some of my domains but when I went to signup and saw they require you give them your social security number that was a deal breaker. I have an account with Sedo and just signed up with ParkingSite.com and they don't ask for your SS#. I have no intention of cheating on my taxes, I just don't trust giving out that info when it is truly not needed.

Most U.S. companies will ask for that now, or require that you send them a W-9 form. They report income they pay to you to the IRS on a 1099-MISC form because you enter an independent contractor relationship with them.

Unless they are required by law to get your social security number they should not be asking for it. Since there are many other PPC services that don't ask for it I will just use one of them instead.

you can always use a "business tax id number" in place of your SS#.

To my understading, DS will now take taxes up to 31%.

I got a form in the mail recently.

They won't take out taxes unless you are subject to "back-up withholding." One purpose of the W-9 form is to certify that you are not subject to this. I think you are only subject to this if you haven't paid enough estimated tax in the past.

Hi, this is a interesting issue I want to discuss with you, I also received today a postal mail with a W-8 form(because I don't live in the US) and envelope to send it.
I'm asking you guys what's with that 31% tax?
I hope this doesn't apply to non-us publishers cause we don't have anything to do with this.
Why do we have to send this info and is everyone sending it?
thanks!

You shouldn't be paying taxes on your DS revenue, unless your country does not have a double-tax treaty with the US.

I got the form also and I live in Australia where I pay taxes to the Australian Govt, not to the IRS.

Ummm...I think they know ... mine came with my check this month.

It is not uncommon that US based companies ask for the W-8 form to be filled out and returned by non-us affilates (you). This just allows them to comply with the IRS for not deducting withholding taxes from affilates (us), that are from countries that have tax treaties with the US.

Hope this helps.

yes thanks, I also read a explanation at their site today, the say that If foreign people send this form completed back to them they won't withhold that tax amount.
