I am just wondering why most of the people on this forum speak so highly of Overtures "numbers" whether it is search matches, type ins, or whatever. What about google, msn, lycos, hotbot, ect..

Just curious

It's just one of many tools and shouldn't be relied on as the sole or primary reason you buy a domain. All the others you mentioned are helpful too, and I don't think any one them trumps experience or common sense.

Jag,

Overture search tools main purpose is to see if and how large a potential market is for your product/service under a particular search word or phrase.

The numbers represent a rough estimate of a potential market.

I run Google Adword programs to benchmark traffic for key words. Works for me. Overture is one big crapola imo.

Not that there is anything else to choose from besides the sponsored banners  . I use the adword select program, which is PPC. Used to sell by impressions but they stopped that service. The select program is a lot more effective on a per dollar I used to pay, my highest cost/click averaging 0.13c.

I monitor important key words specific to my industry.
