This is an old, old practice among domainers, one that I've been equally guilty of following.

Why in the world do all sales thread include "xxx results in Google"? And we actually pass off a high number of pages in Google as something of a good point!

Does we even realize that a high number of pages in Google only means one thing: more competition. A domain is SO much more attractive if it has low competing pages in Google, and high searches as per the Adwords keyword tool.

So really, we gotta stop this practice of saying that our pretty little domain has 500,000 pages in the big G (with quotes!) for its keyword term. It only means that the domain buyer will have to work that hard to rank no.1 for the term

You can look at it that way. But you can also use it to see how many people associate with that particular word or phrase. So, the higher the number, the bigger chance of type-in traffic.

I use the number of Google searches to check how relevant a phrase is. If you type in "new york real estate" and "new york realty" you can see the first term is used much more. This usually is the term that gets searched more as well. There are thousands of terms in different niches and this is an easy and fairly reliable way of guaging the popularity of a phrase. Of course this can mean more search engine competition if you are talking about developing but this can be great for domainers (more end users).

I believe it's a trend started by Frank Schilling, Rick Schwartz and Dr. Kevin Ham.

I love it when people give out of quote numbers.

For example:

insurance home and "insurance home". :)

Add the Estibot estimates, along with the Google results and you have a winning sales thread :cheesy:

The number of search results does not matter at all. It's certainly not a negative point since competition isn't predicated upon the number of results.

If I look at something that has 580,000,000 search results, that tells me it is an uphill battle of trying to get a foothold.

In the above case, unless you are very generic and keyword rich you are telling me that you have 580,000,000 competitors.

and here comes when it is mentioned "Premium Domain" .. why??
because Google search is xxxxx million ..
because Estibot appraisal is xxxx dollars...

but then, we all have, had or are doing for 1 domain or other either for sale, buy, appraisal?

Puranjay, do you have any problem with people posting their sales thread whichever way they like? It's a free world, let them be or do whatever way possible without going over the line.. why crib about some stupid stuff, when we have much more serious issues to take care of in the legal/dispute section lol :p

True. What matters of concern to some is of no concern of others.

I'd agree with the above, it doesn't matter.

sashas seems to be annoyed at domainers.

He started a thread on another domaining forums with the title "Domainers Are Delusional" before going onto say that domainers have got it all wrong and haven't got a clue etc. (No doubt the semantics can be argued, but that was the general theme)

People can do what they want, and domaining clearly *is* a good way to make money. Heck, I'm not delusional ;)

startrealtvfootballhouse.com for sale

0 google results for startrealtvfootballhouse, just think you can have the #1, #2, #3, hell, you can have all the spots for this keyword rich domain, no competition!

maybe this is a better approach?

The amount of competitors means absolutely nothing. The amount of FIERCE competitors is what matters, and you can't tell that by simply the amount of Google results.

What Google results does show is phrase usage, which is good for brandable domains or phrase domains, ones that may not have a lot of search but may have value in people using them often.

I rely more on search #s now but I used to rely a lot on Google results in conjunction with common sense ("if you" surely has a lot of results but IfYou.com is a crap domain), and I did perfectly fine with it at the time. If anything I think Google's Keyword Tool has spoiled people to no longer look at results very often, and in some cases it's still important to look at.

And having been in this business over 10 years, I can tell you that doing this INCREASES sales.

Human life is built on discussion and debate. Without it, we would cease to exist. We have opinions, both you and I, and we ought to express them.
