10 reasons for investing in domains

  1. Unlike currency domains are not subject to inflation. Good domains appreciate faster than anything else. Just think how much value the greenback has lost vs world currencies [I'm glad I get paid in euros...].
Forget the stocks or real estate. Virtual estate is the way to go.
  2. There is no other industry where you can turn a $10/y investment into a 6-digit sale.
  3. Checking your daily PPC revenue is like watching your bank account balance grow without doing anything.
  4. You don't have to quit your day job. Not immediately.
  5. In spite of ever-increasing competition there are still opportunities left for everyone. Just be smart, be proactive, find your own niche. Be dedicated. If you are not breaking even after one year, then maybe domaining is not for you.
  6. If you think the Snapnames auctions are tough, you aint' seen nothing yet !
Remember, it is likely that many of the premium names that are dropping today will never make it to the market ever again. Fact is, every dropping domain may be a once in a lifetime opportunity (What are you waiting for, go bid now !)
  7. You can work at odd hours and make your own schedules
  8. When you explain what you do for a living nobody really understands what's it all about ("huh so you are a webmaster ?"). Nothing beats those confused looks on their faces.
  9. You make money on your addiction and not the other way around [if you do it right].
  10. The Internet is still in its infancy, in fact you may not realize you belong to a rare, elite breed of 21st century entrepreneurs. You are making history. You are making things happen while other are just watching things happen.
etc

It is like war, exhillerating and unpredictable, but without the bloodshed.

It is like a contact sport for the brain, heck of a gruelling but winning makes you forget the pain.

It is like cutting edge science where others think it looks so easy and yet you know you have to study constantly to succeed, and this is what the difference between a domainer and someone who has some domains.

It lets me earn my living by thinking!

You can do it from anywhere with a computer.

I too like the thinking involved and creativity of building webpages for domains.

I honestly don't know why everyone doesn't do this, you just need a computer and a credit card to get started. Almost everyone uses the internet, but the whole domain thing just doesn't click with most people.

It's the polar opposite of what I did previously. All my life I had been in the food industry where you've got;

Low margins - against incredible margins
Perishable goods - against capital growth
Monthly expenses while holding product (cold storage) - against monthly income
Transport costs - free, instant pushes
Often working crazy hours (when you least want to, ie Christmas etc) - against picking when to work

I'm so glad I found domaining, I will never go back, and it's an industry that my kids can learn from an early age.

Don't teach your kids domaining, they will snap all the good domains from you. ;)
