What do you think ICANN will do? There are only 3 possibilities....

I figure they *have* to reject WLS. Anything else will be insane, but I give it a 20% chance that they'll do the wrong thing.

Giving more involvement to VeriSign in this political climate is unlikely, IMHO.

My prediction: rejection.

My guess is that bringing this up at a *closed* meeting is a signal of action rather than delay. Someone seeking to avoid questions about an action would chose a closed meeting. One can delay in the open. Just my two cents.

I agree with DomeBase. And when you read MarkMitford'a thread 'ICANN General Counsel recommends approval of WLS' http://www.dnforum.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=32255#post32255
and the link, it seems WLS will be approved:
http://www.icann.org/minutes/report-vgrs-wls-22aug02.htm

Emphasis is given to the .name precedent, as well as a Redemption Grace Period:
http://www.icann.org/minutes/prelim-report-28jun02.htm#RedemptionGracePeriod

Hate to say it, but it looks like the deleting names game is coming to a major watershed.

Mmmm, looks like 53% who took the above poll weren't expecting today's WLS decision:

ICANN will delay making a decision 29.41%
ICANN will approve WLS 47.06%
ICANN will reject WLS 23.53%

Once that Louis Touton advisory came out, it was expected.

Now it'll be appealed, though, so things will get interesting.

it won't. The lawyers sue because that is what lawyers do. They will lose the appeal, but that doesn't matter because the greedy lawyers get paid either way. The registrants will end up picking up the tab in higher fees, etc.

The WLS is here. Accept it and move on.

If ICANN's using the same lawyers as the Karl Auerbach case, methinks the appeal will make things right.

I'm not a lawyer, but my strong impression is that ICANN's side of the case was extremely weak with Karl Auerbach case. Hard to argue that a Director of a not-for-profit organization can not see the books without all sorts of hoops. My hunch is that the WLS issue will be much less clear cut.

Anyone knows how will WLS affect the SnapBack service of Snapnames.com?

Thanks.
