The survey measures the comparative cost of over 200 items in each location, including housing, transport, food, clothing, household goods, and entertainment. Produced by Mercer, a global human resources and financial consulting firm, the survey is used to help multinational companies and governments determine compensation allowances for their expatriate employees.

15 New York City, United States

In my biased opinion, it should be number one. Probably will be there soon.

Heh, I knew that #2 would be there so high up - the house prices are crazy now. £300k ($600) for a small 1/2 bedroom flat!

does "comparative cost" mean compared to the local income level or compared to other cities in absolute numbers?

Monte Carlo (Monaco) is not on the list, too small i guess.

My top list includes Monte Carlo, Oslo, London, Zurich and Geneva in Europe.

In North America, Calgary, San Francisco.

In Asia, Hong Kong.

Wow! Interesting report. Here I thought a couple of our Canadian cities were tops?

I read an article a while back that Vancouver was ranked 6th in the world for most exspensive housing. Seeing that your report covers a couple of hundred items and Van is not even included in the top 50, we must have something that is cheap? Hey I know, it's our booze

Agree. Vancouver is the most expensive city in Canada and should be in the list.

Oslo was number one a few years back which surprised me.

I am also very surprised Venice, Italy is not on that list. That is by far on of the most expensive cities I have travelled to.

There is a fee for table linens, a fee for sitting, and all this is on top of the bill for a meal and a gratuity built into the bill.

Plus, everything there from hotels to entertainment is so damn expensive. Nothing is cheap and free in Venice. What cha gonna do? You're on an island. ENJOY!

I am not spamming,just chatting.talking,discussing.
and I might not sell this domain name (I fear to put the domain name here now.)
misunderstanding might kill/murder democracy and freedom.
I have no idea to deal this in international community while I am lazy to explain everything.

Whoever thinks he/she lives in the best city on earth hasn't been to Moscow.
If you are rich in NYC, you are poor in Moscow.
Moscow is the most expensive city on earth for a number of years now.
Realize it.

Great, nice to see that our next "planned" trip will include 11, 18, and 19.

With the US dollar in the crapper, every where on the globe is the most expensive city.

That's why I say "planned"...not planning on going until get better exchange rate.

I think it will be a long wait.
