I noticed Harrahs, the largest multi-billion dollar gaming company owns WorldSeriesOfPoker.com....does anyone know what was the cost of this domain acquisition?

Thank you.

In 2004, Harrah's bought Binions Horseshoe Las Vegas along with all rights to The World Series of Poker (Tourament, TM & Web names) for approx. $50 Million, much of that in outstanding Horseshoe liabilities. The domain name itself, I believe, was part of that deal.
Interesting to note is a massive ongoing lawsuit over WSOP.com that is independently owned - One can read the present domain owners position on his website.
FYI - Harrah's owns many of the typos and will pursue legally those who they feel infringe.

i would second that claim. i am developing a poker affiliate site and Harrah's will not even allow you to use the "wsop" or "world series of poker" text on any page on your website more than twice without including a visible disclaimer and link to their website appearing on your site. my guess is they don't want anyone using those terms for SEO. but whatever the case they seem like they mean it and are serious about protecting their TM

ck & HomerJ,

Thank you for sharing that very interesting intel... that explains why I don't see World Series Of Poker & WSOP verbiage showcased in multiple venues & websites..they TM'd some good global keywords and they lock everyone out.
