We have now been in talks with .IR registry to resell domains Internationally for over 1 week now, its looking very likely they will accept!

Prices would be about $30 p.a. for .IR

$20 for co.ir
firm.ir

Would be inrested to know comments!

(.ir = .Iran )

If the US attacks Iran, kiss those domains goodbye.

... The chances of that is as likely as another person crashing the plane in another us building! Iran is Not as bad as they show in the west! they have a pretty OK army! (one of the strongest in the middle east)

Don't want to get political but thats VERY unlikely!

I am not judging Iran. I am saying that it is very likely, based on the current situation in the region - especially since Iran's posession of nuclear capabilities - that the US will pre-emptively assault other countries in the region, e.g. Iran and/or Syria. In that case, the market value of .ir domains will be zero.

Infact i disagree completely!
Usa can't just turn off .ir ! Even in event of a war, it has nothing to do with the domain's value, i think it will just go up than down because of the popularity it actually gets! i am pretty sure most people in west didn't even know where Iran was before bushes Axis of Evil Speech!

The market for .IR is very big as there is ALOT of iranians who are outside iran who would love .ir domain as they are very country proud. I just wanted to see if other people from other countries would go for them the same way as .IN ! Even though iran doesn't have the population i can say the growth of internet is much bigger and soon to boom in iran's Business markets!

You seem to be US based, it is illegal for you to even be discussing this with them.

I am based/ Born in UK :cheeky: Though i am 1/2 Iranian!

Though because i have wanted to reg my own .ir domain and couldn't because of my situation in uk, i had to resolve to sending payment via post to get it regged! So i decided to make a service to make it public(internationally via credit cards / paypal) which seems to be getting accepted!

I doubt it would be illegal, there may be an Trade Embargo (though i am certain there is some type of oil trade etc. going in the background!)
I am actually uncertain on this point and will check it up... as far as i checked i know if about 20 sites .ir based in USA political groups / news agency sites!

dntalk, I am not bashing Iranians - don't get me wrong.

I am simply commenting on the value of the .ir TLD, if the events I mentioned above became a reality.

:) i never took it as you bashing against iranians. Everyone has their openions. Though i doubt USA attacking Iran would become a reality unless an unforseen event happens!

I see that alot of people in USA would have doubts of going for a .ir , will certianly check up on the legality first...

In 2000 wasn't Iraq's army (one of) the largest in the world?

no, i think it was 4th largest in the world in 1980's. By 2000 due to the lack of underfunding / no help from west / gulf war it was devistated...

by 2000 i think the army of afghanistan could have been said were more organized / powerful :p

I think it's a good step, but I don't see any value for those domains until 2020.
that country has to get a steady regime there.

I would not register .ir, but thats an opinion.

in any case, I wonder what sex.ir or anything like that would be like??
Would they even allow you to register any domain you want?
I highly doubt it.

In my agreement i have to check all domains and not allow domains like sex / casino / poker to be registered. I think they manually check it after my check too!

thats what I mean...
censorship.
I wouldnt be surprised, if they next 'erase' a domain because of content...etc...
forget about it

I personally dont think censorship is a bad thing when its comes down to sex.ir or casino.ir as most would hopefully agree these type of sites are not really beneficial!

Though i disagree with free speech / political censorship :) and i doubt they delete political domains!
