They are based in China, although they have an address in the USA.
I've done some traces, and from Australia, the last two machines that are showing a lot of packet loss are
Tracing route to onlinenic.com [218.107.207.5]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
[snip]
15 529 ms * * 218.107.221.10
16 464 ms * 573 ms 218.104.128.162
The last IP shows this information when looked up via dnstools.com
218.104.128.162 is located in [image of China flag]
The only way I managed to connect to OnlineNIC at the moment (although still sporadic) is by setting up a secure proxy on one of my servers in the USA.
Still cannot connect from Australia, I am on ADSL2+ connection, trace fails with packet loss once entering China.
I have several hundred domains with OnlineNIC and the price is great, and their service has been pretty good to date. I have put up with slowness of website, but this outage is unacceptable.
Depending on how much of a problem this becomes, I might move over to usin the new RegisterFly API (assuming the special API-only pricing is going to stay in place permanently)
[next day update:]
All I can see now when going to
http://www.onlinenic.com/index.php
is this plain text message and nothing else:
URI '/' only
Will try telephoning them now.
