I say a boycott of Yahoo is due. We, as domainers are the few that can actually take a stand against an internet conglomerate and force policy change internally.

It is unacceptable when freedom is squelched for dollars (or yen), and Yahoo is doing no less.

This would be akin to Yahoo (having existed back then) informing the Nazi's of where Jewish Emails were coming from.

ya, they do. Unfortunately I have not been able to locate documents from the Chinese govt confirming google doing this, only the two cases from yahoo.

If I cannot substantiate it with evidence, I cannot make the claim.. least, thats how i view things.

China has intensified a crackdown on the media in the past year, sacking newspaper editors, arresting journalists and closing publications.

While I'm certainly no fan of Yahoo, maybe you ought to direct your ire at the people primarly responsible for this - the Chinese government.

ahh trust me..I'm obviously no fan of theirs. However, I cannot change china policy.. not even a dude standing in front of a tank can, sadly.

But we can pressure yahoo (et al) because of what we do and our collective weight in the online world.. all we have to do is not be apathetic to the situation and let them know we will not stand for it.

It's asking alot, I know.. to say "bite me" to yahoo, but can they ignore 25,000 webmasters with inumerablre websites with such a loud collective voice?

I think it's important that companies like Google and Yahoo continue to provide their services to Chineese citizens. Even though they are forced to comply with draconian rules, I think in the long run the good will outweigh the bad.

boycott? come on, lets get real...never going to happen, and you know there are far worse things going down in china and in many other countries that should be addressed first using whatever means.... but i do understand where you are coming from...this whole situation stinks, literally, i know...but sadly not much you or any of us can do to change what happened. no going back.
