Few months ago on ebay, they could still earn few hundred bucks for a yahoo listed name.

But now, many names there have no bid!

Sorry, but it was a stupid idea to start with.

Someone registered my DMOZ listed domain when I allowed it to drop and I bet they now have zero hits from it

Sucking traffic from a dead domain is like digging for possible gold from gold fillings of rotting corpses.

There are loads of better alternatives to generate the traffic you want.

but these kind of name does attract buyers .. before.

It could have thousand hits a day, or zero, just depends on your luck.

Agreed, but I think people caught on to the game and realised how worthless it was when Yahoo wised up and started making changes. Such corpse robbing tricks only degrades the quality of the search experience for Yahoo.

Webmaster should do his job to get traffic to their site.
Not just register directory listed domains to get instant traffic.

Fair competition.

agree. but how to increase flow at the first stage? besides promotion and advertise, IMOH buying domains with traffic is no doubt a good way.

Buying names with targeted traffic is generally a good idea regardless of the originating source.

I buy and sell Yahoo names...some are an excellent jump start for a new site...others suck wind.

Luck of the draw. If the goal is to buy and turn over for a profit...probably not sound.

"I sought out a .BIZ address to not only acquire a unique name, but also to distinguish my business from all the negative associations of the dot-com world—or should I say 'dot-bomb?' .BIZ enables us to present ourselves as a B2B service that is fully focused on the success and satisfaction of our customers. Further, it enables us to widen our scope well beyond the U.K. and into many other countries. .BIZ works."

That is just... absurd.

DOTBIZ blows.

Yahoo now mainly uses Overture and Google results for searches and has put less emphasis on their directory listings.

A year ago it was completely different, where a listing in the directory was hard to get, ranked highly in Yahoo searches and usually resulted in traffic. Not so much anymore.
