.. just noticed Mr Premium (Mark) has posted a photo of himself in front of Famous.com ad at some shopping mall.

Screenshot 2023-12-13 at 06.01.43.png

.. isn't it crazy?? .. the business has such a great domain name, and still, they operate from https://www.famousfootwear.com/

.. another relatively recent acquisition?

.. somebody needs to fire the marketing team :( .. or the business relies too much on income and can't afford to have 2-3 'emptier' months

it seems the parent company has enough funds to absorb some temporary losses..

then I looked in a bit deeper (really curious) - and it seems they also have famousfootwear.ca, so probably some other cc extensions as well..

still.. very strange.. it is like owning an S-class Mercedes and driving 10-year old Volkswagen Golf (a fine car, though not compatible with MB).

The team that led them to such success? 🤔 Maybe they have a strategy a little deeper? 🙂

It's common practice - Lamborghini owners don't drive it for everyday errands. 🙂

I just checked and found that the URL famous.com has been forwarded to famousfootwear.com. Thus, there could be at least these 4 reasons for the company to use the domain name famous.com instead of famousfootwear.com.

Brand differentiation
: If there are multiple companies or entities using the name "Famous" in different industries or sectors, the company might choose a more specific domain like famousfootwear.com to distinguish itself as a footwear brand. This can help prevent confusion among consumers.

Trademark considerations: The company may have faced trademark issues or legal constraints related to the name "Famous" alone. Adding a specific term like "footwear" could reduce the risk of potential trademark conflicts.

SEO strategy: Sometimes, companies choose longer domain names because they align better with their search engine optimization (SEO) strategy. Including relevant keywords in the domain can potentially improve search engine rankings for specific terms, like "footwear" in this case.

Established brand identity: If the company has been using the longer domain for a significant amount of time, changing it to a shorter one may not be practical due to the potential impact on brand recognition and customer familiarity.

The seo angle is what I was thinking too.
