You guys are not looking at the business potential here you are only looking at domaining mechanics. Okay this guy probably advertises on his site Uisng adsense or someother publisher(maybe affialiate program too) Since his keywords are configured for banking he gets a lot of traffic from these keywords.BankRate Might have an advertiser channel with whatever publisher he uses. Meaning that alot of his traffic is converting for bankrate probobaly on the traffic benefits it might be cheaper than 10 years using a middle man like google or yahoo paying for the traffic

This is the core of it, imo...

This deal is a perfect illustration, I reckon, of how to align a domain to a specific market - and, leverage value into it.....A much better End User sales template for us to follow than Rick Schwartz's 'over-hype' razzmatazz sales approach.

The value of this traffic model for Bankrate could end up being 20 times what they paid over the next 5-10 years...Good deal for them - Great deal for the seller.

The domain owner has done this brilliantly, imo...

Good luck to him...:)

So, none of you know that BankRate actually paid more than double this amount for a three word domain also run a one-man team?

They paid $32 million cash for CreditCardGuide.com.

To me it smells like a company dealing with a bursting banking bubble and a stagnant revenue stream by throwing its hoarded cash in all directions. But, time will tell I suppose if these acquisitions have any real staying power. I for one haven't heard of any of these companies that they've been paying 10s of millions of dollars for. Since many of these sound like they've only been around for a year or two, it's better than hitting the lotto for the sellers in my opinion.

yes long term development plans always pay off.
The prices still look ridiculous though, I'm sure these two guys would have agreed on much smaller amounts.
I have some more info in the post :)

Interesting write up Michael. Great sale for the blogger although i did see that the blog was ranked in top 5 or 10 spots in Google for various cd and money market related search terms just from some quick queries. A nice domainer/developer success story.

I thought banks were running out of money.

Awesome sale.

No no, see the banks NEVER HAD MONEY because it is created as debt literally out of thin air when loans are given The privately owned federal reserve prints the paper one hundred dollar bills for 2.5 cents each.

Money as Debt

Any country with a central bank and a fiat currency will see incredibly volatile economic times and hyperinflation.

Money Masters

The central banks have the world by the balls, everything in the mainstream will only propagate a story that fits their agenda.

What can we do?

Well, the act to abolish the Federal Reserve is sitting, waiting to be passed. Who put it there? John F Kennedy.

Freedom to Fascism

The Q and A with this California stud was pretty cool to read.

Awesome story, gives ANY domainer a realistic model.

I heard his wife and next door neighbor's house were included in the sale. The price is still way too high though. :D
