The new weekly domain sales report is out at DNJournal.com. The final week of the 2009 sales season saw the kind of light overall activity you expect over the holidays but it still produced a pair of impressive six-figure sales. Setting the pace was a $350,000 blockbuster handled by NoktaDomains and another solid six-figure sale from Sedo. Three country code domains and a pair of non .com gTLDs joined the usual complement of .coms on our new Top 20 Sales chart. You can get all of the details here: http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm

Our final Top 100 sales chart for 2009 was also completed this week – you can check it out here: http://www.dnjournal.com/ytd-sales-charts.htm

Right. But Wordpress is TM and the buyer is risking a lot of money even if the domain/site got the visitors which would gradually fade away if continue to park. The buyer could buy tons of traffic via google adwords and it is much safer.

CookingGames.com?

This one shocked me. The term meant nothing to me but they are apparently a huge thing with girls - million of pages in Google about them. Guess I need to get in touch with my feminine side :)

I think Larry Fischer, who really knows his stuff, called it right on his blog - must have been based on strong existing PPC revenue as was the case with DressUp.com which has the exact same look on its landing pages.

damn not being funny but gee the search term for that domain is millions and to be honest i would of sold that for a few hundred if i never done the research, amazing price ! but what gets me it seems to be a select few who get the crazy prices,i would like to see a normal working guy on this forum get a big hit, maybe it's a big money laundering scam amongst the big domainers?

and it just goes to show that it's not just old domains what command big money, the domain was regged just in 2004 :-0

Yeah, I can understand dressup, but I can truthfully say I have never heard of that term. Shows how much I really know.

I'm with you on this one. The only thing I can figure is someone sees a big market for a cooking related games niche.

nah another money laundering exercise going on by the looks of it.......

I don't believe it. Search "cooking games" on Google, there's one ad. No telling what the real story is?

It's funny when people refuse to accept that ANY domain can sell for ANY price, whether us - as domainers - valuate it high or not. That's the beauty of the end-user market.

Cookinggames

First I know the buyer, he's for real.

Second I know the sellers, they screwed me for 5 figures about 6-7 months ago on a name that was supposed to get traffic.

Bottom line, when a name shows past ovt/w and it looks believable but you insist on seeing stats and they refuse, walk away.

Good luck to Bill, he has obviously done well... and oh it doesnt hurt he has a Skenzo account :)

For the back story on this sale read the many comments now on Larry Fischer's blog: http://directnavigation.com/2010/01/wtf-cookinggames-com-sells-for-350000/

The buyer, Bill Karamouzis, commented there on why he paid 350K - massive PPC revenue as Larry originally thought (Bill said he paid 8x). He has a track record of success, so just goes to show - you never know.

Bill is a world-class entrepreneur; having dealt with him personally in the past I can assure you he had a solid plan in mind when he coughed up 350 big ones for this domain :D
