It's called cybersquatting, and it is ILLEGAL, and it hurts domain owners because it increases our legal costs and deprives us of our rights for our truly generic and descriptive domains.

Since DNF management is turning a blind eye, cybersquatting --AKA hawking famous registered trademarks-- is turning this forum into another den of disrepute like the old AfterNIC that went belly up.

No, this is not crapping on someone's sales thread. This is a civic duty to protest illegal activity which harms us all.

Know the downside!

Intellectual property industry sources say the average cost to litigate a trademark is $250,000.

Up against MicroSoft, which has a fierce legal department, I would say the cost would be MUCH much higher.

I see that DNF has a self appointed police force pissing on people's sales threads . In this business, it is buyer beware. If it were a stolen name - post it out, but judgement calls? No place here on this or any other sales thread.

In this case, you would get a C&D and if you just hand over the name - no costs are involved and it does NOT cost the rest of us domain owners money.

It was a stupid joke.

I am aware that owning a illigal (TM) domain can cost MUCH more than just losing the domain.

No, Hal is just tired of blatent cybersquatting.

It does hard us all, but I have seen a few cases where I think hal should have one.

Maybe this kind of behaviour is what leads to this?

Possible - but if someone wants to play with matches - this is not the place to tell them they can get burned or start a fire. You cannot legislate morals or even common sense. I just don't like people breakin laws as well by pissing on the sales thread - why can he select one law to uphold and not the others in life? SEnd the guy a PM or an email - fine...

Just an observation - not a fight

Wrong. American Industry designs everything to suit even double refined idiots. That is why it writes "the object in mirror could be closer than you think or something like that" Or those locks in sports clubs. So it is normal to write down here "beware, there is a big possibility that Bill could whoop your ass if you own micrasoft.com" :-D

Ironically someone in this forum has billgates.com

YES. IF CITIZENS ARE NOT VIGILANT, WHO WILL BE?

In this case, you would get a C&D and if you just hand over the name - no costs are involved and it does NOT cost the rest of us domain owners money.

THAT IS FLAT OUT WRONG. IF YOU GET SUED UNDER THE ANTI-CYBERSQUATTING LAW YOU CAN FACE PENALTIES OF $100,000 PER DOMAIN AND YOU CAN ALSO BE LIABLE FOR LEGALS COSTS --BOTH YOUR OWN AND THOSE OF OPPOSING COUNSEL. THE LIABILITY CAN EASILY BE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.

WE ALL SUFFER BECAUSE BLATANT CYBERSQUATTING IS USED TO JUSTIFY HARSH LAWS WHICH END UP BEING USED IMPROPERLY AGAINST LEGITIMATE SMALL ENTITY DOMAIN OWNERS.

Guys...shitting in sales thread is wrong...regardless of the reason (unless a domain is stolen). If you don't like it, then don't buy it or start a thread in the lounge...but don't shit in a sales thread.

This is one of the reasons I hardly ever start a sales thread in the forums anymore. The Mods need to enforce this rule.

IT *IS* STOLEN.

'MICROSOFT' IS THE SINGLE MOST FAMOUS AND MOST VALUEABLE BRAND IN THE WORLD.

This is one of the reasons I hardly ever start a sales thread in the forums anymore. The Mods need to enforce this rule.

NO. THE MODS NEED TO STOP DNF'S SLIDE TO A DEN OF THIEVES.

This is a joke...there are many typo domains being offered in another thread right now on DNF and I don't see you bitching in that thread. Why not...I thought you were the DNF policeman?

Also, lawyers have a reason for being. Just because you think it's wrong, does not me you would win in court. That's why we have a court system...and some companies could care less about typos.

Do us all a favor, and keep out of a sales thread if you don't want the name.
