Maybe invest $50,000 or so right now, spend the rest on gold and silver bars or something.

While your gold and silver appreciates in value, you can find out the best way to invest the $50,000 to start, and then maybe increase you budget once you know what works.

you sound really too anxious to spend that $300,000-$400,000 budget... you will do MUCH better by simply reading the forums FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR and then maybe deciding to invest in domain names after that.

if you really have that amount of money sitting there... you are ahead now, and getting the "itch" to spend some cash as an "investment" will only lead you to trouble 9 times out of 10.

Well, you see, I am not really into domaining.

Just like someone who buys an apartment as an investment doesn't have to be a real estate agent, I too don't want to get too deep into domaining. The original idea was to buy a few good domains, that can generate at least 10% in parking revenue each year. That way I get more than I would get if I put the money in the bank. Again, I can't afford to lose this money, it ain't "play money".

realize, that it is VERY VERY easy to lose out in domaining if you dont want to get too deep into it. this is one of those things that you need to be deep into to understand and turn a profit.

this is much, much more complicated than traditional real estate.

if you take one thing away from this thread - it should be: it is very very easy to lose out on domaining if you do not have a relatively deep understanding of it.... which will only come with long term observation, or losing a ton of cash.

You might consider buying some lower risk typos and then rolling this cash flow into generic domains. For example, at 18 months revenue this would give you $10k per month (not including renewals) to invest in generics. If you could find one good generic every 2-3 months, you would be able to buy some quality names at 20-30k.

Did you just win the lottery or something? Normally people would not have xxx,xxx just sitting around and wait to do something.

You'd be surprised. Very surprised.

Plenty of people do.

Then stop wasting your time and get away from domaining as fast as possible.

Because domaining takes time and effort. And a clear understanding on how to best make a clear profit from domains. It's not something that can be fully explained on some 5 page pamphlet, or a 5 minute informercial. There are a lot of variables and factors involved on how to truly make a lot of money in this business.

Given the complexity of the industry I would "dip my toes" first to find what works for you and your commitment level. I agree not to buy volume garbage domains but be very picky about your portfolio. You have money and time on your side don't "go all in" until you are ready

"No reserve" auctions like with Sedo on Feb 26 could be a good opportunity to pick up some good ones for non-insane prices. dangerous.com and deposits.com are in that auction.

Go carefully....Domain prosperity takes knowledge, and the times are very unpredictable...Easy to buy - harder to translate that into hard cold cash profit.
