Choose a short domain, with a maximum of 20 characters. Those who pass this extension may seem spam.
Make it easy to write and spell, think about when you have to give it to people, that they understand it the first time.
If possible and available, always choose .com domain extension as the first option.
Choose a domain that is easy to remember, that has to do with what you want to sell, to build a brand image around it (if you include a keyword from your niche, better).
Avoid including hyphens in the name of your domain.
Avoid capital letters and, if you intend to position yourself internationally, the ñ.
Try to avoid numbers.
Register the domain in the country where the company or activity is located.
Always consult with other people. Sometimes what we see clear as water others do not understand the same.

In addition on the easy to spell and write, also avoid same letters that follow each other to avoid confusion e.g NamesSearch.com because when typing the IP adress it is easy for people to type namesearch.com and lose on traffic when people give up and opt to search for a different website.

The given tips are very helpful for people who want to buy a domain. But I want to share more tips that can help you to buy the domain:

Keep it short
Make it easy to type
Use Keywords
Target your area
Avoid Number and Hyphens
Use an appropriate domain name extension

All of the above is true ... BUT,
- using keywords id domain name will not make it short,
- short means less than 5L, so it would be a one word keyword,
- the rest is all nice,

Make sure the domain name you choose fits good with your product. The product that you sell and the domain that you own should have certain level of similarity. It must resemble you r business, should be short, easy to type and remember.
