What is .mobi?

.mobi is a top-level domain (TLD) approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. .mobi is unique ? it is the first top level domain dedicated to delivering the internet to the mobile phone. .mobi is sponsored by a consortium of companies which includes the most prominent mobile and Internet players in the world.

.mobi is the first and only top level domain dedicated to users who access the Internet through their mobile phones.

With four mobile phones purchased for every one personal computer, there's a world of people whose main access point to the Internet is a mobile phone. And every one of those users can trust that a web site is compatible with their mobile phone if that site's address ends in .mobi.

In an increasingly mobile society, businesses, organisations and individuals need to reach and interact with their customers via the mobile web. A .mobi address allows them to bypass the constraints of geography, operators and handsets to effectively reach their audience.

For content providers, it opens a new and more profitable revenue stream, without having to rely on operator portals. Conversely, for operators, .mobi allows increased use of profitable data services while ensuring a good user experience and, therefore, customer loyalty. And that's because dotMobi ensures a predictable, consistent experience on a mobile phone by encouraging site owners to use dotMobi Switch On!TM Guides, based on Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C) open standards.

In short, .mobi will revolutionize the use of the Internet on mobile devices but why now and why with .mobi? Because dotMobi, the company behind the .mobi domain, is backed by the most prominent mobile and Internet players in the world the same companies who have delivered the promise of today's information society: Ericsson, GSM Association, Google, Hutchison, Microsoft, Nokia, Orascom Telecom, Samsung Electronics, Syniverse, Telef*a Moviles, TIM (Telecom Italia), T-Mobile and Vodafone.

I welcome the sarcasm from community college dropouts from the likes of RickInCollege ;)

Funny we often hear myths from the Mobiphobic Mob that the investors are not doing anything to promote .mobi....

However, when one points out the numerous dotMobi promotions the same crowd acts snarky and whines about the news....can we say doublespeak?

Evidently, this Einstein has been prescient....
Man...I really hope you are right...I don't own any mobis...never liked them, but have a huge suspicion they will be dead in 6-8 years, simply because of the evolution of cell phones.. iPhone was first.

Hey college crumb muncher, have you seen the new iPhone commercial featuring .mobi?

There was some tremendous news that came out of MWC in Barcelona.

Suffice it to say, you can choose to ignore this .mobi thing.

But it is not going to ignore you.

You are a consumer.

Get ready to be bombarded.

at least the guy is trying to make money at 20 (or whatever his age is), unlike most others who get drunk at spring break parties and throw up spending mom and dads money.

Can you say the same thing for yourself? What were you doing at 20? Browsing through mobile phone catalogs?

Can't speak for anyone else, but I spent most of my time off my tits....that's what you're supposed to do at 20!

Grow the F up. I warned you that this was all going to hit you like a ton of bricks.

Don't you feel like the *** you portrayed yourself to be when you said zagat was a loser, right here on this forum?

Or do you just feel like an ass?

You want to know what the **** I was doing when I was 20? Banging beaucoup tang in Saigon and Bangkok, dropping acid and speed, smoking opium and hash and Thaistick and thinking I was living a dream. And then I woke up one day and realized where the hell I was.

Maybe you'll wake up one day and realize where the hell you are and what you're doing and saying. But I seriously doubt it.

Be prepared to be further embarrassed and be spoon fed your own words. Maybe they'll taste better going back down.

Well see, this is what you guys on that side of the fence just don't understand. Those of us who've invested in .mobi are, largely, individuals; with a common interest.

At this stage of the game, we have nothing to lose by working together - solving problems and breaking down barriers on a daily basis.

Noone is the 'sidekick' to anyone else.

I realise you're new to business in general, and that's probably why you don't see the bigger picture. You actually acuse others, of that which you are guilty of; the forum(s) naysayers are the pawns to the 'leading' domainer / blogger kings.

When (if) you realise this, you can temper that feeling of being used / being stupid, with that fact that you will've learnt a valuable life lesson.

Woah..that's a lot of stereotypes you got going on there from my 1 sentence comment...Something troubling you brother? Trying to project your anger onto others? .mobi not paying off? Or maybe your Viagra prescription doesn't help anymore? Life sucks? Chill down hunny...take a deep breath...and reg more .mobis if it makes you happy.

As a matter of fact I'm a proud med+psych major of a private school by the name of Loyola University, that's located in Chicago. I'm gonna be one of those people who will be doing neurosurgery on tards like you when you get older and blow your brains out on nonsense.

Jasdon, I've had this conversation before with Mjnels. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if I was around the time of .mobi landrush, I would've bought .mobis. Lots of them. I just spent a 1000 bucks on .asia, and would've spent the same on .mobi during landrush. I don't follow what the domain bloggers say. I don't even read their blogs. If .mobi wasn't way overpriced and hyped today, I would've bought it, because at the end of the day, its the profit that matters. But you tell me yourself honestly: can you buy a keyword.mobi name today and expect to make a good profit without development, looking at the prices? As I've said before, I have a problem with this hype.

What RichInCollege said was just a sarcastic comment about .mobi. That did NOT warrant an attack on his college and what he did outside of domaining. I don't know him, and I've never spoken to him before, but it certainly pisses me off when anyone who says anything about .mobi is attacked personally.

Is that the best you can do?

You are STILL not done embarrassing yourself.

Your dumbass still thinks you can embarrass yourself on a computer screen? Your self esteem is tied to your keyboard, but mine aint. I got a life, and I suggest you get one too. Its a wonderful thing. You'll like it, Frankenstein.

Add to the ignorance you portray each and every time you hit a key stroke.

You're right. I can just stop.

You're doing a hell of a job destroying yourself.

I sure get on your nerves, don't I
Not on my nerves. Just love to bait you to make you look even more foolish.

This is nothing more than target shooting for me and you are just a duck sitting on a pond.
