>yesonline: www.eCASINO.com

A little off topic, but is it that ecasino.com has just been sold or are you the new owner? eCasino.com is listed on Sedo as recently sold for US$25,000. Thanks.

I appreciate the info on escrow.com. I've never used them for a transaction myself so I have a couple questions. 1. How long did they take to disperse payments and what method did they use for that? 2. Did buyer and seller have to enter all their contact information again at escrow.com and accept new agreements there as well?

Truth is, we don't anticipate saving any money by providing escrow in-house. We just thought it would be an easier transaction for buyer and seller to use a single service provider.

BTW, it amazes me that escrow.com accepts credit cards. Seems like a simple scam could ruin their business: Register a name for $10, sell it to yourself for $4900, pay with a credit card, get a check that clears, then issue a chargeback (or if it is not your card, the owner will do that). Online merchants have little recourse on chargebacks - it is a HUGE risk. Perfect way to turn stolen cards into cash. Escrow.com must know something we don't. We will keep an open mind.

The answer is on the announcement on afternic.com during this transition period. (I cannot say more or I would.)

Thanks for the kind words.

Question for Proproject:

It'd seem as if the final step of becoming an exchange member at (new) Afternic does not display any sign indicating that the credit card transaction is secure ("lock" insignia, etc) nor does it say so. Can you comment on this?

Two things.

1. Please do something about the shill bidders.

2. Can I lease the hostnames ns1.afternic.com and ns2.afternic.com from you, please? :^)

Drewbert,
1. We understand this concern. We hope that our 50/50 partner affiliate program will encourage our members to help us police the exchange. There is a link on every listing so visitors can let the exchange know if there is a problem with a listing. We also do not give any advantage to listings that have received offers so we don't encourage shill bidding.
2. We never say "no" until we hear the price. :D

Finally, Afternic has a voice :)

I've been using escrow.com more than 10 times. The credit card payment makes it easy to buy domains at $500 - $2000 because the commission of 3% more is still cheaper than wire transfer fee. And it's also convenience.

For wire transfer, the fund is cleared in 1-2 business days compared to 3 weeks with Sedo (which stops me from doing business with them in the future). For credit card payment, escrow takes 3-4 business day to clear the payment. I think they have a process to verify the credit card payment.

Not using escrow.com or a trusted third party for the financial end of the deal would be suicidal. Sheer lunacy in my opinion.

Why would anyone trust "proproject" or the "new" afternic to escrow the deal. Why would anyone choose to disclose banking and CC information to proproject or the "new" afternic?

Looks a little shady to me actually. Use escrow.com or some trusted third party. I'd never consent to in-house escrow after the debacles of the "old" afternic's escrow delays and shenanigans!

proproject: I imagine Escrow.com factors in a percentage of fraudulent transactions into their fee of 6% for credit card transactions. They likely use a combination of factors to reduce their risk, such as credit checks, "scrub" lists, past history of that client, etc.

Does namebuysell.com have the equivalent of Escrow.com page:

http://www.escrow.com/resources/escrow_license.asp

Roger - can you please answer a couple questions......

1) You have only purchased the domain name 'Afternic.com'? Not the site - or the business?

2) So all the Afternic systems and servcies are history?

3-A) Other than having 'Afternic.com' point to your 'NameBuySell.com' site - what else should people expect?

3-B) Will NameBuySell.com remain pretty much the same? Just using 'Afternic.com' to get traffic?

Thanks! :)

On the other hand, GeorgeK ...

Escrow.com has certainly been duped in terms of brokering the financial end of stolen items or domains. If the item purchased is stolen, and buyer advises that goods received, escrow.com doesn't offer much protection.

It is pointless to argue of the merits of escrow.com vs. proproject private escrow. We all know what we'd feel more comfortable with ...

4. Do you have any process to detect stolen domain names?

5. What is your plan to deal with shill bidding?

Take your 'sweet' time with revamping the Afternic services.. Roger & Michael..

You'll do fine..

With all new adventures/buyouts.. you can expect "growing Pains"..

no sweat..

I'm just real glad to know you've taken on this "Bear" and plan to revise, upgrade, enhance and drive in traffic..

It's great news!
