I suggest the auction should allow seller to choose starting price - i know i will not be putting great names with the starting 1 bid

A name i think is worth more could go for a buck or a computer glitch could prevent others from bidding, etc. and i would not take that risk.

Lets get posts from both sides - people who agree and disagree with we on this.

I agree TOTALLY

The irony about this thread is that just about everything that has been recommended in it has already been implemented or I already said in other threads that it would be implemented for future auctions.

Did you guys feel any deja vu when you came up with these great ideas. ;)

When are there ever 100% of the buyers in attendance for any industry specific auctions?

Do us all a favor and tell those big players what they're missing out on. Spread the word. That's how sellers fetch higher prices for their names. :)

I believe that in real-life auctions, the seller has the right to call a reserve price and he/she does not have to sell if the final bidding does not meet the reserve.

Have you heard of absolute auctions?

no. All the auctions that I went to has a reserve price. Maybe that's just real estate or just in Australia.

However, I do think that why make the seller unhappy? After all, the domain name is the property of the seller and he/she should at least have the right to decide how much he/she is willing to let it go.

Actually the idea of the forced $1.00 strating bid auction in a excellent idea.

The domain market is in bad need of liquidity and that will only happen when us speculators start actively trading domain among ourselves. And given the state of the market the $1.00 auction is the way to go.

Yah, I agree with the two auctions a week idea since I would like to get rid off alot of my domains at low prices, but some domains you just cant risk starting off at $1.

The 1 dollar deal is an excellent idea !!
The more people that spread the word to the bigger investment companies the more sellers will become known and create advertising for ourselves.
Good work !!

IN THE MISTS OF TIME,
WHEN I WAS AN AUCTIONEER,
IF ANYONE WANTED TO SET A RESERVE ON THEIR LOT IT HAD TO BE SANCTIONED BY THE CHIEF AUCTIONEER, AND A NONSELLING CLAUSE WAS INVOKED, THIS COULD CAUSE SOME ADMIN PROBLEMS WITH THIS AUCTION, BUT IT'S WORTH LOOKING AT
I DONT KNOW OF ANY AUCTION ON THE NET OR OFF THATS FREE
SO REALY ANY WAY GREGR WANT'S TO PLAY IT IS GOOD!
WE USED TO START OFF THE LOT WITH THE LOWEST BID IN THE ROOM, THEN BOUNCE BIDS OFF THE WALL TO INCREASE THE PRICE, THAT MEANS DUMMY BIDS, BUT THAT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE, CAN IT?
