That is not even ... Semi .. believable that a name was snapped during a transfer.

Talk about a window of opportunity ....

Redirect any relevent domain names to where they may do some good.

I think it does happen occasionally. Whenever I transfer a name I always take the precaution of putting a Snap on the name first. If someone already has a Snap on my name, I won't transfer it until their Snap is removed (this sometimes can cause a long wait for me, LOL).

Maybe I'm been overcautious, but I don't like taking chances. Oh, and I'm not an employee of SnapNames :D

Fizz,

The only way that could happen was if the name reg had expired, in which case it could not be transfered any way.

You really spend the money to pay snap to snap your own name during the transfer process if the registration is current, within 60 Days of expiry ?

I have never heard of that before.

Transfers do not result in DELETE and ADDs, so a hijacking in the middle of a transfer at the registry is physically not possible if a new registration is required.

Hijacking a domain is much more likely the result of the domain's control panel username and password being compromised, or the registrar being fooled into changing the admin contact information - or an auto-ack to a transfer request that was not denied by the admin contact before it timed out.

I did read the story, and several other stories. If you knew Jon Messner you'd realize anything he's involved with is a publicity stunt. This may as well have been a Press Release for SnapNames or Jon's porn site Wetlands. Everything else usually is. Its filled with a lot of hype instead of just saying what it really is.

Btw, my earlier comment was sarcastic based on the article calling Jon a "hacker" and having a Snapnames catch a name meaing it was "stolen". Duh.

Many thanks for the clarification thewitt. Given that some things occasionally go bump in the night when it comes to domain name transfers between registrars, I personally will continue to err on the side of caution here. It doesn’t cost anything and gives me peace of mind.

LOL Americar, I should have mentioned that I simply use one of my existing Snaps.

>>Fizz, you must have some great domains.
A couple nice ones lah ;^)

Dots, anything in a can :)

>>If you knew Jon Messner you'd realize anything he's involved with is a publicity stunt.
And IMO Brujah, a dangerous one at that. Just made himself and his websites a target.
