Google.cn results - 74,400,000 pages for 沙发
Baidu.com results - 42,700,000 pages for 沙发
yahoo.cn results - 34,709,727 pages for 沙发

Pretty good. Though if those are anything like TV eyeballs they are probably only worth about 10% of the english language counterparts

Average Chinese salary is like $300 a year. Much less disposable income. Some telecasts in China get more eyeballs than the entire population of the US but those networks don't make anywhere near as much for the advertising as NBC, ABC et al. Advertising prices are directly correlated to how much the viewer can spend on the products. Another example is the largest spanish language radio station in LA, I forget the name, but it gets far more listeners than the largest english language radio stations, KROQ etc. Though they don't get nearly as much money for advertising. Why? Because their listeners are, how shall I put those, lower income earners.

That's pretty condesending stuff when the only thing being the US and oblivion right now is Chinese Finance.

The richest man in the world made his money with Spanish language TV stations.

How many millionaires are there in China? How many will there be in the next 5 years?

What on earth are you guys talking about.

All I was saying was that per page view advertisers pay more for english speaking traffic than they do for chinese language traffic.

Maybe but by 2015 the Chinese economy will be bigger than USA.

PPC is done on an auction basis. It is all down to the level of competition in a market and the budgets available. This things are only just kicking off in some markets, but PPC rates climbed very quickly in the Anglo-Saxon World when people caught on. Nobody is more entreprenial than the Chinese. Do you really think they still barter sea shells?

The market for Honda's is orders of magnitude larger than the market for Ferrari's.

Which company do you think spends more money per new customer?

Point being that it doesn't matter how large the Chinese economy is if the average person makes $500 per year. The traffic will still be worth less.

Say you have a parked page that gets 100% chinese hits. Then another one that gets 100% US. The US traffic is always going to be more valuable because those people have more money to spend. The fact that the richest 1% in China are getting richer and their overall economy is booming makes no difference. Advertising is about the median. The median in the US is going to be far far higher for at least another century.

You are right. You should continue ignoring these practically virgin markets for the above reason. Also for the fact these domains just look weird.

Russia:

The Russian online advertising market doubled again in 2007 to US$369 million and is expected to reach $685 million in 2008.

http://seekingalpha.com/article/63889-russian-internet-advertising-market-booming

China:

but the real growth driver will be the pay-per-click search market, which will surge by 82% this year, JPMorgan estimates, to $562 million–with Baidu taking the lion’s share, to no one’s surprise, with 65%-70% of the market.

http://digitalwatch.ogilvy.com.cn/en/?p=181

Japan:

This robust usage begs a look at how online ad spending measures up. The simple answer is that online ad spending is growing very strongly in yen terms. According to Nomura Research Institute, total spending will grow by 35 percent this year and will continue to increase through 2010.

For comparison, 265 billion yen was equivalent to $2.4 billion in 2005. Based on exchange rate forecasts from the Economist Intelligence Unit, 359 billion yen will be the equivalent of $3.2 billion this year and Nomura's projection of 643 billion yen will equate to $6.7 billion.

Good luck doing any real business with these:

I've been studying for over a year. I've finally all but given up hand reg'ing, wasted thousands on it when I started out. Recently I've finally started to buy domains from others, let me know what you think of my first purchases and if I'm on the right track!!

DETY.net (means children in Russian)
WUIU.com
GVMW.com
VKAW.com
ONLINEFREEROLLS.com
SAVVYPOKER.com

Please let me know what you think any or all of these are worth, and then I will post what I paid for them and we can see how I did

Russia has 53 billionaires worth a total of $282 billion, according to the Forbes list of the richest people. In addition, the second-tier rich include 103,000 Russian millionaires who are collectively worth $670 billion, according to a study on the evolution of personal wealth in the former Soviet Union written by economists at the Center for Economic and Financial Research, a think tank here.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/29/fashion/29moscow.html

"people with more than $1 million in financial assets excluding their homes"
"The number of these wealthy individuals in Japan grew 5.1 percent to 1.477 million in 2006"

This is one of the most common MISconcept about China because the average doesn't really matter. In China, there is a fraction of their population living in a standard comparable to some developed industrial states in Europe. And that fraction alone is THE "population" (in statistical sense) for marketing and advertising. That poor peasant in rural Sichuan does NOT have access to the Internet, AND THEREFORE NOT COUNTED. Most (if not all) surfers in China are city dwellers with quite some handy disposable incomes, who go after the latest cell phones, video games and other electronic gadgets, JUST LIKE WE DO.

Advertising is about the median.
Now, you should know why advertising, at least in China, is NOT about the median.
