Any thoughts on .MOBI? I've been getting missed reviews. I pre-registered a couple but only because it was free to do so.

Theres no way of knowing really Time will tell. A lot of people dismissed tv domains. Some have sold for fortunes. Recently on this forum people dismissed .org. as virtually worthless. The key is to research what's happened in past. People will use .mobi on the move. what for? music, myspace etc Most will still use pc. But then what do i know?! maybe you are right & have a few to be safe. cheers, Guy

Once they get past their crazy 'sunrise' nonsense we'll see. Like I tried to register 'discuss.mobi' but they said there was no slot, as it had been taken by a TM claimant. Sure. discuss.mobi is a real TM. Nonsense. What you have here is pure registrar greed again, with no semblance of order. I mean, does anyone actually look at, or care about claimed TMs in the 'sunrise' period?

Some would say this is yet another pointless TLD. I subscribe to that point of view.
Why not give it a shot and grab just a few. But I wouldn't reg anything less than an ultra-premium name (ie. strong generic keywords).
IMO in spite of the hype it's not going to revolutionize the Web.

Same holds true for .biz: .biz names are selling on a regular basis, I actually think there is a market for solid .biz domains. But the majority are just not very much wanted. There's no point in holding domains if nobody will want them (unless you will be using them for your own purpose).
The raison d'être for .biz is dubious in the first place, and the raison d'être for .mobi is even more questionable.
Put simply, there is no need for a .mobi TLD. There has never been a need for a TLD for mobile devices.
Let's look at it in terms of market and demand. Will there be demand for .mobi ? Your guess is as good as mine, but it's safe to assume there will be a bit of frenzy and speculation in the beginning and that the best names will be easiest to sell. Most others are likely to rest on your hands. JMO :cheeky:

Look at the unfairness, how many Premium Names mTLD set?
118 pages of Premium Names...

What r they going to do with those massive amount of Premium Names?

Anyway, I pre-registered couples of names.
I do not hope .mobi would sink as my pre-registion would be worthless.

Continued introduction of more tld's makes less sense with each new release. The thing that always lacks is registry promotion.

.mobi supposedly has more big money backing than any extension before it, and there is a compelling technological reason with most standard websites being incompatible with cell phone displays. If I'm lucky enough to snag one good one, I look forward to developing it along .mobi standards and then marketing it. My other sites will definitely get cross promoted on it.

I have to say that the 2 years minimum of registration and the high price won't help individuals to buy the .mobi names. We will have to see if the major companies adopt and advertise the .mobi. I don't see them advertising the .eu at the moment so I am wondering if only the .com and the country extensions have value... we will see...

This page has link to a 149-page PDF of premium and reserved .mobi names (also has link to excel file):

http://pc.mtld.mobi/switched/premium.html

"The premium name list is a compilation of commonly used ("generic") words and phrases which mTLD has set aside for equitable allocation using other than a traditional first come first serve basis. A final list will be published prior to the launch of the allocation process."
