Wow I didn't even know that it was still around. I had a few sites listed years ago, the main tip I can give you is to follow the procedures on their suggest URL page to a tee http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/add.html). Ensure that you choose the most appropriate category. If the sites are quality they should get listed...
It's no magic bullet for SEO. Submit and forget about it. If you get accepted consider it a bonus.
That is not true at all. 99% of buyers couldn't care less if the site was accepted into DMOZ. They will just care about revenue and traffic stats.
my site is listed, but i never submitted it
seems like they pick and choose who to add...or not
The high revenue sites do tend to be listed in DMOZ because they are usually the top sites in their respective niches. Would they obtain the same premium price if they weren't listed in DMOZ? Absolutely. I am sure you are talking about a tiny sample size so there's nothing meaningful to be gained from it but imo the actual correlation is that quality sites are accepted into DMOZ NOT that DMOZ listed sites attract a higher sales price.
It's definitely not about SEO.
Seems like that is exactly what you are talking about. See my first comment above.
Not arguing. If you are talking about "trust indicators" with regard to search engine algorithms you are talking about SEO. If you are talking about trust from a user standpoint most buyers wouldn't even know about DMOZ so it's a moot point.
It's not that simple though. Let's take pagerank for example. It directly impacts SERP placement and indirectly impacts perceived quality. At the end of the day a domain or website with established pagerank will fetch a higher premium than one without.
I would have to disagree with PR being a key player. I have a couple sites PR 0 tailing PR5+ on the first page.
Content and how well it's delivered is king. I think the bounce rate has more of a play in it than PR these days.
Getting back on topic of getting listed for tricks... Have you read the SEO book of Kama Sutra for editors?
DMOZ was pretty much discredited years ago when they were exposed for requiring bribes be paid to editors to get listed in many of the areas. Just look at many of their 'trusted' listings, full of spam and junk sites.
It's much like the Better Business Bureau, which will remove negative ratings for a fee, and won't give you a high rating unless you are a paying member.
