I also think these types of names are more popular among domainers than end users. Check reported sales for 'top keywords in crap extension' and see how many domains are developed.
As an end user would you put up a 'serious' website on a .io or .vg or .whatever ? Doesn't make sense in terms of image.
Some keywords like Sex, Poker, etc. will have value in pretty much any extension. However that value could range from $50 - $10M+ depending on the extension.

OK, let's assume they have some value. I wouldn't say they are good investments.But domainers drive a large part of the value in the first place so I do not see why this is even brought up. It is a non issue.
Certain TLDs make sense for certain purposes, for example .fm fits for radio stations. .tv has its own niche.i agree, to a point. there are some sites though, maybe Ping.fm is one.
