No. Extension definitely makes a difference.

He's not saying that it has SAME value, He says that are some keywords which are valuable, such as "credit", "call", "business", "sex", "casino".

Of course. With keyword SEX you will get money with any extension.

Yes. Just not AS valuable as the ones with the premium extensions.

No. As an end user would you put up a 'serious' website on a .io or .vg or .whatever ? Doesn't make sense in terms of image.

Well, extension does matter. america.us is far more valuable than america.jp

Does it not depend on the extension and the market you're aiming at? I'm in Spain, so obviously .es domains have more value here than in, say, the US.

Of course it matters, but some keywords are valuable no matter the extension. That does not mean they are equally valuable in any extension but "sex" is an example of a keyword that will retain comparable value in all extensions. Even if it is just among domainers.

yes, that is what I am getting at. some words like Poker. Tell one country that does not play Poker or uses a different word for it? So that I would say is a good example. Sex is another, sure. I'm talking about the top keywords only. I suppose thats what I meant by "some". there would be debate as to which ones. unless you might say, no, poker.vg is worth reg fee. I would be interested to hear that argument though.

I also think these types of names are more popular among domainers than end users. Check reported sales for 'top keywords in crap extension' and see how many domains are developed.

Some keywords like Sex, Poker, etc. will have value in pretty much any extension. However that value could range from $50 - $10M+ depending on the extension.

But domainers drive a large part of the value in the first place so I do not see why this is even brought up. It is a non issue.

I like this discussion because it is very open-ended and its clearly somewhat contentious, by hashing it out lots of differing opinions come to the fore. I just wanted to start an open debate.

i agree, to a point. there are some sites though, maybe Ping.fm is one. another point is that if i were using the domain strictly for a PPC campaign I believe I would rather have Poker.vg than BlaseBlasePoker.com. In that regard depending on the use, Bankruptcy.cc may in fact be a good buy for someone running CPL landing pages. I think that bankruptcy is a high paying CPL offer for affiliates. Let's say you're making $50/lead on bankruptcy leads. Well, factor how many more clicks will your campaign get using the straight keyword.cc vs. MyBrandableBankruptcy.com, and/or how much of an SEO boost can you get, maybe it is worth it. Data seems to support that use of the exact match keyword domain improves SEO and SEM results. I've also read some are building profitable sites on keyword .us domains. Its really an interesting topic, imo

Agree with this - I used to do very well selling top keywords in obscure ccTLDs, especially "poker" (hell, my top sale ever was poker in a not-so-obscure ccTLD :p).

OK, let's assume they have some value. I wouldn't say they are good investments.

Certain TLDs make sense for certain purposes, for example .fm fits for radio stations. .tv has its own niche.
How do you brand a .vg domain ? Vegas lol
