So my nephew gets hit with a roadside bomb yesterday in Iraq, they fly him home in a military cargo plane lying on the cold floor in agony, bring him back to the Military Hospital in Birmingham, they then transfer him to a normal NHS hospital which have a specialist eye dept, he then goes for surgery, comes back and through his blurry vision he sees an asian looking doctor poking around him,he naturally goes mental as he has just been blown up by them, although not the doctors fault, but come on a bit of common sense should prevail in such a sensative time.

The latest news is he can see but is agony, they cannot find the microscopic shrapnal left in his eyes which now means he will eventually go blind ! :-(

See the problem is with this stupid politically correct goverment of ours, they bend over backwards for everybody except there own !

Oh and he is just 19 yrs old ! god bless him

Yeah my grandfather who was a verteran aswell as a retired firefighter went to the VA on a weekly basis complaining that he had chest pains. This went on for about a year. Every time they told him nothing was wrong and sent him home packing a bunch of drugs to dope him up. It actually got to the point instead of him going to the hospital they just mailed him the drugs. We had it set in our heads he had become addicted to the drugs and thats what the real problem was. After he died of a massive heart attack they did an autopsy only to find what should have been obvious from the start (if anyone over at the VA took the time to check) an enlarged heart.

Such a young age. Hope your nephew gets well.

So the answer is to wait until a non 'Asian looking' doctor is available to treat him.

YES!

Stupid is what stupid does. Forrest Gump

Sorry to hear about your nephew, sorry to hear about it day in and day out.

This may sound stupid, but he can not get anywhere near a strong electromagnetic field. And make damn sure they (the medical staff) DO NOT DO an MRI on him. Surely they would not be so careless, but it can literally pull the shrapnel out of the eye (even the tiniest sliver of metal) and tear it beyond repair.

I say this as a medical professional with pins, plates, and titanium screws in my lower back and pins in my knee and ankle. I am not allowed to be near or transport patients to MRI. I have to get someone else to transport my patients for me and remain with them during the procedure.

Again, so sorry about anyone getting hurt, including the innocent Iraq citizens.

I'm sorry to hear about your nephew.

I always thought most people in Iraq would appear to look arab, or middle-eastern, not asian, but then again I've unfortunately never been there myself.

I get your point though.

Total respect to your nephew, speaking as ex royal navy i feel for him, the MOD just haven't got the idea of backing their injured servicemen up, i was medically retired with not much hope of getting a decent job again. Just remember the lads have no input, we have to work with what s*it they give us and complaints just fall on deaf ears! I wish your nephew luck, and ensure he talks to the British Legion to get as many benefits as possible that he should be due! They are very good!

Bulldog,

I wish your nephew well. I am active duty navy 18+ years now and I work in a hospital where they bring in the wounded everyday. You never get used to it, seeing the injured that is. It's the hardest environment to work in, but one of the most rewarding as well. Just know that they are doing everything they can to help. Visit with him as much as you can, that seems to be the best medicine.

God bless!

Sorry to hear this Britishbulldog... :(

Also sorry you have to deal with some of the ignorant hatred being posted here. :(

I really hope and pray for your nephew not to lose his vision.

Much respect to anyone, anywhere, who serves in the military.. I was an active duty US Navy officer for 4 years in the late 90's during peacetime. I have the ultimate respect for those who couragously serve in war.

As for the arguing going on in this thread... it has no part here... show some respect to those willing to serve a greater cause for their country...

Best wishes to you and your nephew britishbulldog.

Just because they cannot find it...does not mean it cannot be found.

We here in the the US love your nephew...just because of what he has done and is doing... A lot of "nephew's" here in the US are doing and have gone through the same type thing.

If nothing can be done there...contact someone over here...good chance there is someone here that can find a "microscopic anything"...anywere any place.

And will be more than happy...to try and help!

Best,
Dan
