Within the past year, others as well as myself have been feasting on .info domain names. The market is "young" compaired to that of the .com.

With so many people chasing .com, .net and .org names, your chances of coming across a premium .info for a good price is not unlikely.

The way I look at it... The internet is filled with information. Chances are, if you go to a random website, that website will be based on information, and not sales.

I'd like to get opinions...

We are already seeing an increase in value... What time frame are we looking at in terms of a significant increase in value.

Some may be die-hard anti .info, I'd like to get your opinions as well. Just make sure you can back yourself up ;)

Any opinions on this topic are welcome. Feel free to post recent purchases as well as sales.

The thing that hurts info the most at the moment in my opinion is the under-development.

Theres a good chance if you go to an info domain it will be parked more often than not.

Interesting, I invested in a few premium .info a while back, sold 2 ( boxing.info and fight.info ) found them very hard to move in comparison with .org/.net . The dot com is still in another league.

So I did a little looking up of premium .info prices when first released and discover that while there are good buys to see and obviously there will be exceptions to the rule, most investors grossly over paid for these offerings at the time. Some may easily recoup their investment now plus plus but over all what a poor initial investment, imo. Go to Domainstate search .info and find a price list of premium names auctioned 5 years ago when offered. All $XXXX-$XXXXX, their ROI today after 5 years is minimal to sad. And yes exceptions to the rule I know but over all it is undeniable .

As for developement helping value, I just dont know honestly, initial prices paid have set the bar far too high even in todays market imo. If after 4 years plus it isnt there what does it say about other extensions beside com/net/org ?

I have many .info names, I only get traffic from geo and keywords .info, everything else are just trash.

I think .info will not go far with existence of .com .net .org

The thing that hurts info the most at the moment in my opinion is the under-development.

Theres a good chance if you go to an info domain it will be parked more often than not.

As of March 2007 there were over 4 million .info domain names registered, of that, over 1.6 million are developed, not parked, but active, dedicated websites.

I dont think that all .infos are valuable. I've sold .infos from $5-$20,000, as with any domain name, it all depends on the term. Andy is right, while everyone is focusing on .coms, i've been snatching up .infos for $1-2k and selling for 5-10k. People are so convinced that .com is the only money maker that they will register and try to selling BS .coms, and the sad part is that people actually buy them. Its a sad, vicious cycle really.

Looking at some of those prices in 2002... I'd say that MOST of them could fetch double if not more today. Security.info $4,000! As much demand as the .com has; In many cases, the .info would just make more sense. The bar has been set high for those particular domain names... Regarding those that have yet to sell for x,xxx - xx,xxx; or have yet to be offered for sale at all... The list of completed sales just on record only sets the bar even higher.

Nice domains.

I believe the biggest problem with .info is the lack of knowledge that it exist by the average internet user.

I have a few .infos and I continue to register more.

Kind of far fetched... But is there anyway to better educate the average person? To make the .info better known, and to let everyone know that there is more to the internet then .com's

Welcome to the wonderful world of ....

...we're launching a new TLD so that the usual suspects can grab the high-paying keywords while the rest of the lemmings register every useless combo under the sun!

Didn't this extension kick off with a lot of corporates adopting it and sticking up an 'information' site to run alongside their .com? My take on it, based on a lot of comment here over the past few months, is that you're better off just saving your money and buying decent .com and .net domains. Thinking about it, even I haven't registered any speculative garbage outside of com/net/co.uk for a long while. That's unusual for me ;)

Ashaw, I agree most could fetch double or more today but keep in mind, this has taken 5 years ! Not a long time if you are a run of the mill investor but in the domain market 5 years and double is bad imo. Not saying doubling your money in 5 yrs is bad at all just when you look at the bigger picture.

They might go up in value at the same rate as other extensions, but I don't think you're going to see an INFO "boom". INFO launched five and a half years ago - if it hasn't happened yet it's not gonna happen.
