Its your auction. Great name :) Clearly there is nothing fake from your end but there is alot of cases from the buyer ends in ebay :) Best of luck with the auction.

Actually, the last bidder $16,666 has 100% feedback score with 925 entries. Must be mad of course, but seems genuine enough to me. I wouldn't moan at that kind of interest!

ebay account hijacking has seen a tremendous increase.
I keep getting spam from different sources for me to 'buy' accounts that have been on ebay for years with 100% feedback.
I wish the seller all the best, and certainly I am not accusing him of anything, but I dont trust ebay.

True statement, but maybe he just bided on it because he knew as well as everyone else he will be outbided. I predict it will reach upto $35,000 but i am not sure if the seller will be paid. Hope he will, but remains to be seen!

Yeah I have no idea what will happen with the auction, there are 379 people watching the auction, and I received a private offer of 50k on the name, so it's going to be fun to see how this goes.

BenedictXVI.com owner WILL transfer it to the Vatican for NO PROFIT. As of today the domain www.BenedictXVI.com redirects to ModestNeeds.org with the following message...

Welcome Benedict XVI.com Visitors
If you're reading this page, you probably already know the story of the Florida man - Rogers Cadenhead - who registered the domain name BenedictXVI.com, long before the new Pope was announced and his name chosen.

Rogers registered this domain - along with several others - to prevent a pornographer or online casino from acquiring this domain name the minute the new Pope was named, and then using it in ways that would embarrass both the new Pope and the Catholic church.

What Rogers has done is really quite unique. Having correctly guessed the name of the new Pope, he could easily have profited - to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars - by simply selling this domain to the highest bidder.

Instead, Rogers has pledged to do nothing to profit from his ownership of this domain. Rather, he plans to transfer control of this domain to the Vatican as soon as he is able to contact them successfully.

And while Rogers waits to hear from the Vatican, as his way of reaching out to others, he's used the domain BenedictXVI.com to tell the world about Modest Needs, a unique non-profit organization reaching out to those persons whom conventional philanthropy has forgotten.

Rogers made this decision because he knows that at Modest Needs, we refuse to spend any of our very limited funding on advertising. By introducing the world to our work in this way, it was his hope that more people who need the type of assistance we are prepared to offer might find that assistance here.

And along the way, he hoped perhaps some of you would also consider supporting this work - which, by choice, and in keeping with our mission, is funded entirely by the kindness of private individuals.

***

Understandably, Rogers has taken a little bit of flack for registering this domain name from persons who fear he'll use it to profit.

But I've spent a good bit of time talking to Rogers, and this much I can tell you: he's a good man with a good heart who acted as he did with the best of intentions.

Rogers simply didn't want this very important new domain to fall into unscrupulous hands. Thanks to his foresight, it hasn't - and it won't.

***

Please note that Rogers Cadenhead is not affiliated with Modest Needs, and Modest Needs is not affiliated with any specific religious or political entity. But speaking for myself, as the founder of Modest Needs, I'd personally enjoy hearing your comments and questions about Modest Needs and would like to invite you to share them.

If you like, you can contact me directly by sending mail to keithmodestneeds.org

If you found this page because you were looking for more information about Pope Benedict XVI, please follow this link to the official website of The Vatican.

Umm yeah, I WON'T transfer it to the Vatican for NO PROFIT :cheeky:

Really his name is not as good in comparison, just being a former news reporter he knows how to get news out there and went looking for media attention. I also don't like how that guy misrepresents the traffic levels (imo) talking in hits. It would be like me claiming PopeBenedictXVI.com received 150k hits on Thursday. Then there is the whole damage to the domain name industry with the "saving it from pornographers" comments, this is much more devastating to the industry than the expected eBay auction.

Plus, you're forgetting the fact that the Vatican most likely cares less about buying or obtaining the domain name, they have their own domain name extension after all. For example look at the whois on popejohnpaulii.com & johnpaulii.com In my humble opinion, this guy is just into himself.

Well, I dont think he is just into it for himself or he would not be redirecting it to the non-profit .org. However, I am sure you agree that it will be good to make a quick buck. And I for one think he is doing it the most honorable way possible...turning a profit and still helping out a good .org at the same time. I dont think it could get any better for anyone. As you mentioned the Vatacin has their on .VA so they probably dont want it. So if they dont want it, and the .org can get some publicity, and he can make a few $'s, then I dont see how this has turned out bad for anyone.

Ohh I know. This name will be sold by the end of next week without doubt. There are 615 people watching the auction, the ticker just past 40,000 views on the auction ... just waiting for the final minute when the Golden Palace bid will come in LOL and if all goes to hell I know some buyers :)

hey. congrats to the seller. it looks like he or she will make a bundle after this is over. okay there were better names but none of you have them, and they will make a mint off of this. Capitalism at it's best, that is why we are here, whether it be a porn site, info site, commercial site, we are here to make money. My hats off to this person. And if no one can see that then they are blind to this buisness and they are in it for the wrong reasons.

Roger Cadenhead just responded to a post on my blog:
http://domainnamewire.com/2005/05/03/pope-site-goes-to-charity/.

Personally, there's nothing wrong with him getting into the media...that's just smart PR :)
