2 months after installing norton360, it let a virus called real-av in and I basically had to wipe the hard-drive and start over.

Can anyone recommend (a store bought) antivirus/malware ?

Thanks :)

Why do you have to have a "store bought" antivirus.? The one I currently use is AVG Free Edition. Its been pretty solid for me and doesn't cost me a dime.

If you insist on buying one from the store. I like Trend Micro and Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

I agree, AVG free is great. Most of the PC tools to help keep your PC running clean and fast are available for free and are as good, or even better, than the paid for software.

I uninstalled Norton about a month ago and have been giving AVG since and it's been great. Norton is too memory intensive and causes too frequent crashes and/or irregularities.

I agree AVG works great.

the $34 gives live protection.

Set up tools to run avg nightly and you should be fine.
I would also give spywareblaster a try. I run that weekly.

And for those times when you just need to dump all your memory (browser too) with your machine on, try ATF-Cleaner.

All have free versions.

Agree.
I never had a problem with Nod32.

It's a great antivirus, probably the best.

Also agree. ESET Nod32 is the best that I've used by a wide margin.
