I'm not the same Russell Boyd who was involved in the Julia Roberts case. I did make the bid and explained I was manic when I made it. 31k is obviously over market value for the domain and I don't really see a way to make the OP happy on this one. On a couple other of the offers I made, I just shipped them a hundred as a way of saying I'm genuinely sorry. I'd be willing to do the same in this case.

I can definitely empathize, as I've has plenty offers which fizzled and I hate thinking about this guy celebrating his fortune and me being responsible for the letdown. I hope none of you ever have to deal with bi-polar. It isn't pleasant.

WOW, not much more I can say.

Two $x,xxx offers in the same day - What now?

What you should do is pay the $30k you obligated yourself to. Now in installments, whatever you can do. The very fact you mention its value is to me telling of why you backed out and makes the bi polar excuse less believable. Apparently your name isn't even worth $30k to you and THAT is whats sad Dutch. I guess we won't see you in any games.

thanks reece, but the thing is cleared, our lawyers will overhand the letter of complaint, i cant understand why this f...... doesnt understand that the costs (lawyer, .....) will be added to the sale. anyway.

Winning a judgment is one thing, collecting on one is another..... I think you would be better off trying to work this out with the buyer as opposed to threatening him with legal action.... I don't like deadbeat buyers anymore than you do, I just think your taking the wrong path with legal threats and spending money on Attorney fees that you might never recover.

Actually, I offered to send you my list of 4,000 domain names to see if you'd take some in lieu of payment for the domain, or perhaps just some for you to let it drop. Instead of being reasonable and trying to make the most out of a bad situation, you'd rather just pm me "**** you" and follow me around on forums asking them to ban me for a deal gone bad.

Deals go south all the time, oppo. Deal with it. I suggest you do productive things with your time rather than negative things like running a smear campaign.

I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. And again, I apologize oppo, for being a deadbeat bidder in that deal. I understand how you must feel. I just wish you'd be a little more understanding and sympathetic to my side of it, and a little more willing to work with me to figure out a good resolution. But I did cross the line and for that I also apologize.

my 2 cents.

when in a bipolar manic episode people will spend money they do not have. My step dad came home one day and had bought 5 brand new cars, given away 20K to his buddy, and invested another 50k in another friends failed business, and blew another 50k on clothes, junk, etc. bankrupted my family just like that, had to sell the house and everything we had.

If he was in a manic episode like he says maybe a little compassion should be shown. I know a contract is a contract as we found out. but do you really want to be the one that pursues a contract that was made when someone was under mental distress?

it can really happen to anyone. keep that in mind.

Maybe I am missing something here but don't people who have bi-polar problems take medication for it?

Very good and informative post, but still not a legit excuse, imo. If he truely has this problem, then he should not be in domaining where it's too easy to throw away a lot of money on crap and he probably should not own a credit card, PayPal account, etc....

That's like saying that it's okay for a drunk driver to kill someone just because they are an alcoholic. . . they can't help it that they have a problem that makes them drink all the time. :uhoh:

He had $15k last month for a poker tourney and walked with $31k ironically. If he didnt mention price and wasn't crying poor I wouild have more sympathy.

I'm backed in everything I play, JP... which means I don't keep what I win. It's very common for tournament poker players to be backed. There are plenty of poker players who have booked millions of dollars in tournament wins that can't afford a beer.

Dutch, no doubt players are backed, no doubt you've been backed but man if you still need backing on a $15k buy in after all your success you have serious problems. Ill be honest I am an avid player and the whole situation is saddening to me man. On both sides of the coin. Get yourself on track bro and start by righting wrongs and giving worth to your name again.

Sorry for off topic but someone explain to me what "backed" means in the world of poker?

Why not compensate the seller for the time and aggravation you caused him?, Did you make any kind of offer like that?... Maybe he would take accept 5% of the selling price, How about it?

Backed as in bankrolled :)

Someone backs you/pays your fee for a cut ( usually large ) should you win.
