Also, there could be a fee avoidance issue if a seller purposely structures a transaction in such a way as to minimize eBay's cut.
If someone is 'renting' or 'leasing' a domain for 1 day or 1 week, but really deriving longer term benefit, such as by renewals which go on and on for months or more, or as a prelude to a big dollar sale.. eBay could have a problem with that.
I mean, if you can slice it into as small a piece of pie as you want, why not rent a domain by the HOUR? The lessee's cost and eBay fee would both be at a minimum. Then, you just renew the arrangement with the lessee --without the auction house involved! It may become a fee avoidance scheme when a pricing plan exists to squeeze the auction house out of their fee.
I have no reason to say that is the case with this specific situation, I am just speculating as to a possibility that exists in similar scenarios. Of course, I know Rick Schwartz --the Domain King, as it were-- and my personal opinion is that he would never do such a thing!
