seeker, is your wife's name 'wife'? or is it maria, apollonia, melina...? :-D

you said it :) my wife's name. Not is maria's name maria or athina or jenny. so the primary word defining this is wife in this case, with a subcategory that distinguishes wife, i.e. Jennifer. Still, may jennifer's out there...

there's a reason why all these huge companies don't care about generic names. because they are into creating brands. auctions.com can not really be a brand. because it's simply too generic and offers no distinction whatsoever. jeff bezos could have cared less about books.com, because he wasn't selling books, but a whole new 'amazIn' idea.

I think we pretty much agree, and as i said in my previous post, I understand your logic. In fact i said thats why they do it, to differentiate.
However, that said, my opinion is auction.com or auctions.com would be much easier to brand than ebay, had this been back then, and had the owner of the concept the possibility to buy auction.com

I drive a car, and sleep in a hotel, and go to the supermarket etc...etc...
everything else is innovative and sometimes necessary i agree, but ultimately, they are just those things, an nothing described itself better than the thing itself.

sure, dnforum could have been called, forumster, but I find DNForum to be much easier to remember and to the point.

just sold ----ster.com for $650.

I'm very happy with the sale, but this could turn into a big site too, I guess.

that info was not around when the name was sold. Trust me, I googled, yahood. I couldnt find it. They kept it under wraps pretty good. Only ext reg-d at the time was my .com. I admittedly did not check the country code domains, or the cat would have been out of the bag, because jamba did have jamster.de and jamster.co.uk up.

I do advise you if you get approached check the popular country codes as well.

Brandable names with no traffic can be extremely valuable. Traffic is not the sole determining factor in the domains ultimate value. When selling a brandable domain to a large corperation you should always charge atleast five figures.

Well said. Is there any wonder, then, that you are a doctor?

i am one of the domainers that believe in brandable domains
my story :
i registered travelopia.com
i got an email a year after to shell it for 500$
i didn t even answer
a year after i sold it to them for 17,000 $
the few last days before the sale i asked the opinion of someother domainers..
i knew the buyer was firstchoice.co.uk
i was sure i could get more than 50,000$...
they all said: " are you crazy "?
i will never find out if i was right...i am just waiting for them to use the domain after the hotelopia.com that they have also....

The million dollar question, did you reg the name Jamster yourself from some creative or desire to do something with it. Was it a drop, etc.. Cheers
