I have a problem where my browser freezes about 50% of the time that I reload the main dnforum page. Pressing "refresh" or clicking on the dnforum.com logo at the top left both have the same result.

I've never had this problem before with any website, only dnforum is causing this problem. I've tried this with mozilla (regular) and firefox, with the same result. In fact, it happened on a random computer I was using the other day..so I know this is not an issue with my computer, rather a dnforum specific issue.

Has this been reported before?

The window literally freezes for about 30 seconds, then suddenly starts working. It's very difficult to work with because all instances of a web browser that are open at the same time also freeze.

Yes, I've seen this happen too. I've noticed two things that could be related.
1) The second box of online users is expanded (the ones that visited today).
2) When it freezes it says it is waiting for information from bannerpages.com.

Serving ads that *one sells* (bannerpages.com is a DNF property?), as opposed to running brokered ads, from outside the host domain never made much sense to me ... to clarify my thought - why serve ads *one already hosts* from a totally different host?

Doing so slows down things (requires additional DNS lookups adding much latency), lately here by a lot, are easier to block, and is another potential point of failure - some browsers, depending on the page being rendered, will just show a blank page/timeout (or the user does and leaves) if a page element can't be loaded.

Using Opera both on dialup and 6mbps cable have the same results for me. The page loads fine but the banners are a killer. When I'm on dialup I simply turn off images for dnforum and it makes life much better.

Its been freezing for me as well to the point of closing out the window period. I think something should be done to correct this as I do not like annoyances and as such makes me not want to visit the community. I've had to close out my browser twice today because it was freezing on me.

DNF is too caught up in money making gimmicks ... I understand DNF needs to make money to cover costs, thus trying everything it can to that end; I've been there, done that ...

A suggestion: Sell advertising direct - takes more work initially, but in the longrun it will likely generate much higher profit margins - is a very stable source of revenue once advertisers have confidence they're getting value for their money; no need to use dodgy 3rd party ad brokers when DNF has much quality targeted traffic.

I didn't realize Firefox could block images from specific URLs. No problems now. Thanks for the idea. :eek:k:

well yes it can block specific images if you right click on them, but I have "adblock" by mozilla dev where certain pieces of code can be blocked like "/ads", I just entered in bannerpages.com and it seems to have stopped lagging most of the time. I usually don't have adblock on, but this is a very good reason why it should in this case.

The problem seems to be getting worse ... hopefully DNF fixes it soon.
