Sorry if this is redundant or you all already knew this but buy domains has all of their "vice" names on sale at afternic for $50. I just got an unbelievable name (that was not vice in my opinion) for $50

http://www.afternic.com/clearance.php?s=2

Again, if you already knew about this...my apologies.

Great...

That's the downside of domain forums sometimes.

Oh well.

Still it makes no sense but whatever, discussions about things like that have been going on since day 1 of DNF.

And yeah i'm fully aware everybody has the right to post what they want as long as it's within the forum rules.

What's the downside? All the best names were taken weeks ago - before posts started showing up on every forum.

Ya most were taken previous to this. There is a post about it if you search the forum. There were quite a few i wanted to buy but was beat to. Now they are on afternic competition is even tougher. Are they liquidating those for "image purposes" or money reasons

The names are supposedly from a major clients' portfolio.

Afternic's "major client" is buydomains.com

I'm aware of that, I bought a few. I heard buydomains is selling the names for a major client of their own. However, the person that told me could be/is wrong. :)

I see they finally decided to sell something, I'm sure not ever going to pay their asking prices.

I bought 90 names $35 each but what is troublesome - they do not make you one account with all the names. They make you 90 accounts one name each. And they do not change DNS on request either. So now I have to sign-in, change DNS, sign-out, 90 times. One day work :(((

BuyDomains is their major client. I know because I spoke with BD recently about this very sale, although I did not buy any domains personally. :)

They are letting some great names go for cheap though. I saw some really good poker names in there too. I guess this is because of the parking scare regarding adult and gambling names.

Mr. Deleted is right about the profit factor though. They had to pay close to $50 on the drop, and then who knows how many years they have been renewing these names. I think the only money they are making is on the impulse buys that result from the extra traffic to their site. I'm sure their premium sales will go up because of this.

Beatz- your sentiments are understandable, but consider this ... the more names people buy / sell, the stronger the domain name market becomes; transparency is a good thing.

With that said, it was no secret - afternic sent a bulk email out about it ... though I'll admit this thread prompted me to take a look at the lists.

The lists are huge, but amazingly found some that look decent, and still available for purchase ...

With that said, most all the names on those lists are of little to no value for parking purposes due to the reduced ppc payouts; various regulatory / legal issues of utilizing such names.

I found a good one on the adult section that isn't even an adult name ( motownlegends.com) ... So it's worth looking over the lists even if you don't want an adult or gambling name :)

They are probably cleaning house before they go public.

The 90 domains and 90 accounts sounds pretty bad. But with a name like NameMedia now "confusingly similar" to their direct competitor NAmedia.com, I continue to be amazed by questionable business practices from buydomains/yesdirect/namemedia.

BuyDomains s*cks!!! I purchased a few domains yesterday and although I paid in seconds (fast with paypal) I have received no domains. I sent an e-mail and here is their reply:

xxxxx.com : SOLD to someone else before you could pay
xxxxx.com : We do not have in our inventory
xxxxx.com : SOLD to someone else before you could pay

etc.

Yeah. That's why I transfer everything to Moniker right away. :-D

Yes, you have to be ready to pay right away if you find a good deal. What's more annoying though is that even if you are a multiple repeat customer, and are able to get them to work with you on some prices quite a bit, they still stick firm to their "First come first serve" policy. It's annoying because once you agree on a price, the names are still sitting there for anyone to buy at your agreed price. I would be pretty upset to go through all the negotiations just to have somebody else see the new price and purchase it before me... very upset indeed. Luckily that has not happened to me yet.. :-(
