I am paying more in taxes this year than alot of my friends make overall per year..lol
Tas, it doesn't matter what your liabilities are. It's a matter of immediate liquidity. You might have a mortgage of $500k, but if you have $10k in the bank, you're 'playing' in regard to this thread. He He I don't even got 10k in credit, but I owe well over 10k though. And if I had 10k, I would be in great shape that is for sure.
Tas, are you in the USA?( It's a matter of immediate liquidity )
For me that means, selling some stuff on ebay to pay my house taxes, like I had to last year. In winter heating fuel prices, are taking every buck I got. I hate winter, and have to worry all winter because of high fuel prices. High gas prices I can live with, but buying heating oil at $2.69 per gallion hurts REALLY BAD.

Well, quite. Reiteration perhaps. If you have 20k in credit card debt and 10k in the bank..you are still $10,000 in debt, but yes, for this specific survey, if you have 10k in the bank regardless of debt, you would be a "player."

If you cant afford it - you dont need it.
Excellent advice! Something I live by!
obsurd. Infact who's to say it be a new kidney or Ferrari that just because you cannot afford either you dont need either ? At times in life you may find things you can't afford but NEED therefore it is not a statement to live by nor does it even make sense unless youve decided just how much your life or anyone elses is and stick to it. Sorry mama that life support cost is killing us financial and you always saidIf you cant afford it - you dont need it.
.If you cant afford it - you dont need it.
My grandmother who needed eeerrr wanted that kidney transplant and the drugs after surgery ON TOP OF IT in NY state but couldnt afford it, she didnt really need it.

How can you compare a kidney and a Ferrari? You NEED a kidney, you dont NEED a Ferrari if you can't afford it.
My point is where in between do you draw the line. Sometimes I see peoples hobby and wow what a waste $XXXX's on toy trains etc. but then I realized that hobby brings that person joy and if it means a little debt from time to time if it makes them happy so be it. Waste does not always mean having your priority out of wack. I think vacations are a waste personally some would have a stroke by now if they didnt take one a year and charge the credit card. You may be able to afford a middle class style and have no big debt but maybe those coffee's, shoes and homes are a waste ? All Im saying is we cannot alll nor do we all need most anything we buy, being able to afford it does not justify it's purchase ! I can afford gold dog collars so thats ok, maybe a gold pooper scooper to match.
I did a little google on the saying and found it was a sarcastic reply from a POOR person or something the under privledged say. It in no way is a statement a middle class person could say they live by and be taken serious. If you dont see the sarcasm in that statement ( read real slow ) I don't know what else to say. IF you cant afford it ( meaning if your poor ) you dont need it ( meaning poor people dont deserve or need basic things everyone else has from a kidney to a sports car ) at least that is what they say .
29. Been caught stealing?
never in my life. i grew up poor 'if you can't afford it you dont need it'... and then the audience laughed at the sarcastic joke.
Interesting, even though it may be a punchline, I still think its an important way to keep yourself out of debt.
The worst part is when you say no and you're wife says no problem to come up with 10k....hahaha
