I think you are in the wrong business. If you would own a top generic .com, would you sell it to me for registration cost? I assume not, so why should the registry do so? Also we some research you would be able to find some .CM for example at this stage which will make $1 a day. Stop complaining, start domaining.

Not complaining. What I meant was why does the registry allow people to pre register the domain/s and the domainers tie up their money and when the land rush is over registry auctions it off for thousands.. It is UNFAIR. Because they allow people to pre register the domain while registery should have registered all the domains themselves from the start and then auction off the domains later then I would understand. But they charge the domainers' credit cards and hold on to that money (probably use it) then auction off the domains for thousands of dollars and the original pre registrant never gets the domain unless he/she pays the winning bid price and then if he/she doesn't then they(registrar backed up by the registry of specific TLD) will refund the money after a few months of holding on to it, so yes that is an unfair game... And yes I am dominaing and making money but when it is WRONG I am not going to sit back and not mention it or bring it up in a domaining discussion forums.

And I am not talking about domains making $1 day but rather top notch single words or 2 words category killer domains and It has happened to me before and I had thousands of dollars tied up registering single and 2 words category killer domains but they were all auctioned off for a total sale value of over a $1 million combined. So I do have the right to state my opinion. If that is they are going to do then don't make the domains available and let everyone pre register any domains then turn around and auction them off.

It is not the registry taking your money upfront. The registrars do so, because they have learnt from the past, that lots of people later decide that they didn't want the domain for whatever reason, or simply didn't have the money to pay for it. The registrars are simply protecting their business. If you pre register via one of the well know registrars, I am sure you will be credited your money in no time, once it is clear that you are not the auction winner.

I just love the registrars, domainers, and gurus hyping domain extensions as the premiere typo of dot com,

and then turn around and *****, complain, and whine when mainstream media runs stories on domainers robbing companies by regging typos.

Couple of questions.

With GoDaddy, was just typing some random names in.

You got the Priority Landrush $299 deal

You got the Standard Pre-Registration General Availability $29.99 deal

And you can check off one of them when checking for domains.

On some keywords, it's available for both.

But some of the more major ones, it says Taken for $29.99 and Available if you click the $299 LandRush. So that's basically GoDaddy securing the better ones for $$$?

And second quesion. Let's say I find one I like and right now it's available even if you click the $29.99 deal. Would you pre-register with GoDaddy or maybe just wait until the July 20th free for all? Thanks.

I think I would wait till July 20th. Because pre registering the domains is not a guarantee that you will be able to get them. It happens all the time.
So your best bet it when it is open to register for everyone then it will be first come first served and you can secure the domain/s of your choice.

I t is not GodDaddy securing the better once for $299 deal, if you pre register now a domain for GA ($29 deal), then the domain will not be availble for GA registration at GoDaddy again, but landrush will still be possible, as landrush will have auction, if there is more than one application. GA is first come first served. I would recommend that you pre register now, this will give you a better chance to get the domain once GA starts and all registrars sending their preorders to the registry.

So who has their pre-regs in and who will be seeing what's available tomorrow? I pre-regged only one today, and will be checking tomorrow. Most good one and two word combos were taken from when I checked today.

Hiding should have been done 2 months ago, now it's time to sit back and wait for emails.

I feel bad for the famous TM holders who are going to have to deal with an unprecedented level of squatting. You could just look at the Pool backorders and see the most popular backorders were also all famous brand TM typos.

It will be hard to sort out TM infringements for generics. For example, Apple.co, Amazon.co, if they got regged and used for something that doesn't infringe the tm, they could be ok. Companies like that probably got their .co already though.
