This could REALLY hurt domain sales, online gambling, PPC revs and a great many domaineers.

" Internet gambling is addictive, dangerous and should be outlawed, lawmakers argued Tuesday as the House took up a bill to prevent people from using credit cards or other payment forms to settle online wagers.

"The ease of Internet gambling poses a very serious threat to our families and our society," Rep. Tom Osborne, R-Neb., said in support of the bill."... read more...

I don't like the smell of this. What's next? Whatever they think they can make a quick tax buck on, I suspect.

LOOK OUT!

The gambling companies will just move offshore. You already can't park casino domains easily, except at a few select parking co's (fabulous for example). They can't block access to overseas gambling sites though, so how will they stop it?

Yes, Government like to give everyone the impression that they are in control.

At best this is a half truth; at worst it is just a disingenious illusion.

sure, time will have elapsed before the EU politicians can follow suit of the americans. Good times still ahead for owners of gambling and casino domains.

If they were smart they would legalize it and then tax the hell out of it; however, gambling does ruin lives and should be banned except in certain areas.

Yes, what about porn? Although I would have to say limiting it would not be good :biggrin1: I guess it is like buying a service. You are not gambling your money trying to make more from it.

Banks ruin more lives than Casinos. It's pure BS.

What about credit cards? What about firearms?

Politicians are really silly.

Meds, alcohol, cigarettes and other products are addictive and dangerous but they have not been banned, instead they are heavily taxed. Hypocrisy rules.

Online gambling companies are all registered overseas, because it's never been legal in the US. It's an old debate.

that`s crazy.....i think the american real casinos are behind this because they do not want people staying home playing online but rather they want their money so normal casinos are fine.

There is a danger in almost all of those products as you state, VioxxLawyers, but something must be done not for the adults but at least for the youngers....

In every article I have read, is has stated that they are also going to try to block access to the gaming sites:

From: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060711/ap_on_go_co/internet_gambling_14

"The legislation would clarify existing law by declaring Internet gambling illegal. It would cut off payments to betting Web sites and would allow authorities to work with Internet providers to block access to gambling Web sites."

But yet, you can still bet on a horse or buy state lottery tickets online:

"Critics point to exemptions that they say would allow online lotteries and Internet betting on horse racing to flourish while cracking down on other kinds of sports betting, casino games and card games like poker."

There is quite a fight brewing if the ISPs do block access to gambling websites.

Yes sell all gambling related domains immediately ... even some states have gone as far as making it a FELONY. I expect to see your gambling domains for sale soon here on the forum.

I wonder if they'll pressure the creditcards and creditcard processors to stop payments? I vaguely recall that Visa did the same for porn sites back around 2000?
