I also think Moniker dropped the ball on this one too, Not just for the 275 call out, but to accept a bid solely on one callers word. I don't know what the bidding norm is for Moniker, but I would think they would capture valid credit card information or some kind of deposit before accepting such a large bid.. If they accepted a deposit of lets say $1000 or $10K, this would of eliminated the "I thought it was only $275.00" BS story.
Good point...and really another 'no brainer'. I worked with race horses for over 14 years. As a result have been to many, many horse auctions here in California and in Kentucky. First thing you have to do is establish a line of credit with the auction house.
Those that are in the domain world and want to take domain auctions to the next level...would do themselves a HUGE favor (and the rest of us) by contacting these people ....to learn about how a Thoughbred horse auction works and about all the different credit related provisions they use.
If they 'pre-qualify Sheiks from Saudi Arabia' that make millions a day from their oil wells...and spend millions at horse auctions...no reason not to 'pre-qualify' potential domain buyers...in some form.
** At least for domains with 'reserves' of say 10K-$20k and upward.
Peace!
