I also think Moniker dropped the ball on this one too, Not just for the 275 call out, but to accept a bid solely on one callers word. I don't know what the bidding norm is for Moniker, but I would think they would capture valid credit card information or some kind of deposit before accepting such a large bid.. If they accepted a deposit of lets say $1000 or $10K, this would of eliminated the "I thought it was only $275.00" BS story.

Good point...and really another 'no brainer'. I worked with race horses for over 14 years. As a result have been to many, many horse auctions here in California and in Kentucky. First thing you have to do is establish a line of credit with the auction house.

Those that are in the domain world and want to take domain auctions to the next level...would do themselves a HUGE favor (and the rest of us) by contacting these people ....to learn about how a Thoughbred horse auction works and about all the different credit related provisions they use.

If they 'pre-qualify Sheiks from Saudi Arabia' that make millions a day from their oil wells...and spend millions at horse auctions...no reason not to 'pre-qualify' potential domain buyers...in some form.

** At least for domains with 'reserves' of say 10K-$20k and upward.

Peace!
Dan

knock it off ladies... IF the dallas cowboys owned this and it was the cowboys official site it would be worth $1M but in its current state it would only be worth a LOT of money the cowboys... Can you think of any other organization that could possibly be willing to pay mid to high 6 figures?

I found the Moniker Absentee and Telephone Proxy Access, Shows you have to pay $499 and follow 3 other steps in order to bid by phone....I wonder if this was actually done, or if the Dallas Cowboys were given a free pass because of who they were..

Maybe some gay rich cowboy just decided to get some attention...maybe he wants to be a character in brokeback mountain 2... Dallas Cowboys have too much leverage on this company, because nobody else would want the domain, and they could just suck it up and wait out until the new buyer realizes he'd rather get something than nothing (sort of besieging)...and sell it for maybe 100k, that's if Jerry Jones doesn't misunderstand that 100 actually means 100k not $100.

This $499 deal...is not a very good idea. Paying $500(Why $499?) for the privilege of bidding? Better way of screening potential phone bidders

And If I was running an auction...I would give anyone a 'free pass' bidding on anything.

Again, they should see how these guys at Throughbred auctions do it...they have phone bidding...and most of the time these bids are well in to the 6/7/8 figures. And the bidders do not pay a 'fee' to bid...thats a joke!...and a bad joke at that!

Peace!
Dan

Even if there had been a deposit of $500 +, the lawyer would have thought his bid was well within that limit.

Maybe the auctioneer should have thrown around the word 'thousand' a few times during the bidding, and made it clear.

2007 was a huge year for domains in the mainstream press, yet there are still professionals and organizations like the Dallas Cowboys out there who still think a domain like cowboys.com can be had for low xxx. There's still a lot of educating that needs to happen.

1) Your end user isn't interested and if so they would rather sue you.
2) It was high at $275k, at $370k its at least a 30 yr multiple.
3) While very targetted your million dollar payout is based on hats, boots and homosexual activity. Not to mention a large majority who visit it dont give a crap about those things and quickly visit dallscowboys or a search engine.

Double the revenue hope the market continues to appreciate and you may turn a buck. How much I have no Idea from break even to $XXX,XXX but $1M? There are VASTLY superior domain names and earners for $1M . The investment to me is baffling. I dont get it, I over paid for something and hope I don't get sued. Yeeehaaa

Got to agree with that. I don't get it either.

ON ITS MOST BASIC & SIMPLISTIC LEVEL...

NOT MUCH TO UNDERSTAND...

Forget all your normal multiple whatever...this and that and the other &&^%$ thing!

This is A SPECIFIC deal for a SPECIFIC Organization

$18,500...over 20years...DALLAS COWBOYS

(If the domain was to be used properly by the DC's...it pays for itself in less than...1 year..,if not...'used properly, less than 5 years...if not used almost at all... less than 20 years.)

They have to do almost NOTHING... with this domain...and it will make them MORE THAN $18,500 a year...for the next 100+ years.

20 Years from they still OWN the domain and made more than $370K...

Whats the downside?

ANSWER....NONE.

*** Correction...Only downside for them...IS NOT OWNING THE %^$#ing DOMAIN!

CASE CLOSED!

How much can you argue over a 'slam dunk' ?

Peace as always,
Dan

BTW: Its almost 4:00am in the morning...and yes I did get 'over served' tonight...not my fault...lol...but..,this analist of this domain is 100% correct...ok...99.9% correct...lol

(just concerning the Dallas Cowboys Org...I have almost no opinion on someone else buying the domain...for whatever use.)

I never said it didn't make sense for the DC to own it. I agree with why they would/should have purchased.
