I did just say so cause moniker.com is probably the best registrar to resolve issues like this.

And I'll tell you the scary part of what I have learned from Register.com.

Check this PDF file.

Now on this file it says it is to be used as a last resort to change your login email. I would assume a few people would have lose all there email, phone number, and secret question all at once, but I was told they get faxes 100 times a day! Yes you read that right, 100 lost accounts a day! That is enough to scare any hi-value name owner to death, that they loose 3000 accounts a month!

if you have a trojan or a keystroke recorder on your PC that password is already hijacked.

if i were you i'd either get a new PC or format your current PC before accessing that account to ensure that the PC is CLEAN.

while most people are not aware of it, I'd say that about 30% of all PCs that access the internet on a regular, daily basis have some type of a trojan installed.

be SUPER careful and for christ's sake transfer out of register.com. those guys are idiots 101.

what a story !!!

There some simple secutity steps that Registrars could do.
passwords can be stolen - email can be changed why not use something out of internet ?

e.g. send an SMS to a mobile when transfer away or pushed a dn from your account.
A reply to be required from this mobile number in order to procced with transfer. What more secure than this ? A simple 2-way SMS gateway and few days simple programming will do the job for a registrant. The mobile numbers associate with an account to be transfered with a fax - NOT to be shown on accounts page.
A verification call from registrant at the begining of account - even charging a flat annually fee for such service - is this way too much or difficult to be done ?

Sorry Mr. D - I was under the impression the domain was still stolen when it was sold in Sedo.

Well congrats, one less "headache" for you :-D

Sold but not the full story? Please explain if you can, $1K is cheap imo. Must be more to the deal.

I think you were happy enough to keep the name at register.com. Just imagine the domain being with RegisterFly or similar FLYbynight company...

heh, I would never have put that name in RegisterFly! But I would also never have put it in Register.com. I only would keep names that are that good at Moniker from now on. (Or with a friend like DCG, he is not like the fly by night companies out there)

Not all registrars are created equal.
