These people get 10-100 checks per seconds and according to netsol publications "millions" of checks come from registrars during these period which might be a gross exaggeration but to make things short unless you are going for second rate names against name winner's 8.75 you are going to have a tough time running any drop service that is successful on a large scale for even middle of the road names.

RRP is Registry Registrar Protocol.
Script - software that tries to register names (in drop name market) :)

If the WLS happens I think it will be the end of all these snapping services.

There still needs to be snapping on non WLS names and other extensions. WLS will only apply towards .com and .net.

I think some of the less effective "snap" sevrices are running a combined availability check and registering script, this means they dont have to do real reg tries all the time and therefore do not need a deal with a registrar, of course they can only pick up a domain at the earliest approx 1 sec after it drops, but still that can catch some good fish. If someone wants a script like this I have it and I'd be willing to partner up with you if you run the drop site.

Each icann accredited registrar has direct connections to SRS for domain name ordering. SRS is provided by Netsol/Verisign and each registrar has been assigned multiple connection threads they can use :) If you have access to these connections you can build a drop site, if not, forget about it

If someone is interested in a server based Perl script
that will check domain name availability non stop for
a list of domain names, and register them when
they become available, let me know.

I will help install and configure such a script. It also
has a pretty easy to understand user interface which
allows you to quickly add/remove names in the monitoring
queue.

Will only answer e-mails, so please contact [email protected] for more information.

Thanks,
Luc L.

right, I was just guessing. My next guess is that you are in between. You have a deal with a registrar but your scripts run against the registrars script and not directly at the central registry. Is I getting warmer?
