There will always be possible to find huge companies/websites who use "crappy" letters, but domains are still valued by how big the odds are for eventually (in the end) find an end-user for the domain. Domains with "good" letters have potentially more end-users than domains with "bad" letters. A quick Google search can prove that. There is a reason why "good" letters sell better than "bad", it's not like someone has just made it up.

As long as the reseller market pays less for J, K, Q, U, V, W, X, Y, Z, then yes; - I believe there are "low quality" letters. :)
The two guys before me who dropped a certain LLLL.com obviously agreed with you...

Fortunately for me, the guy who phoned me up one evening desperate to buy it didn't...

Dude.. There will always be success stories, but you can't deny the fact that in general, "premium" letter LLL/LLLL domains sell better than "bad" letters. :approve:

Oh, and on another fishing trip among the 'bad' letters, I found an LLLL.com which has 3 of those letters and forms a common English word spelt backwards. I intend to make a strong case for it... I'll be interested to see exactly how much I can get for a 3/4 bad LLLL.com!

It's not zzaj.com, for example, but how much would that be worth do you think? I'd try and market that with a catchy phrase such as "ZZAJ; JAZZ is back, back to basics!"

Of course, but I'd still liked to have owned SEXY.COM!!!

Yes. Crunch sales data (follow the money) or run this experiment.

Hypothesis: premium letters rule.
Premium: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T
Non-premium: J, K, U, V, W, Q, X, Y, Z

Randomly eliminate 8 letters from the premium group so both groups contain 9 letters. Then randomly generate 3-letter combinations of all premium and all non-premium letters. Open a forum thread to give away free names, one name per customer. Offer 2 gtld names. One all premium, one all non-premium, but do not label them as such. Repeat this giveaway hundreds of times, with random pairs of all premium and all non-premium names, with the 2 names listed in random order. Note which name gets claimed first. A pattern will emerge. Quickly. Call it demand, call it quality, just don't call me late for dinner!

Dictionary domains have nothing to do with this discussion, so if you have no arguments at all, you should leave them out.

*Yawn*

Not another self-patting thread please.

A domain is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Trying to locate cases to justify a trend, does not cut it.

xp.com is almost at $500k on auction and no one is saying anything about "x" being non-premium or a low quality letter to deflate it's value.

but again, I glad others still are sleeping!

I don't think we're on the same planet here, Don.
XP.com is a 2-letter .com, not a LLLL.

This thread is not referred ONLY to LLLL.com but to any acronym.

Of course LL are too rare but regarding XP I won`t be putting money there becaus eof TM issues.

Let's put some things in perspective.

XQ.com - yes!
XQY.com - yes!
XQYZ.com - no
AKLMNO.com - no

See the pattern?

So what makes XQY.com better than XQYZ.com (still not sure I understand the reasons given)?

Why should XQY.com have a value of ~$7k? It still means nothing, etc etc?

All I can see is that XQYZ.com is a developed site :eek:k:

And I bet that you were one of the guys that back in 2000 said NO to XQY.com ;)

Wanna bet in 2015, you`ll regret your stubborness?

rarity / length / supply & demand

Did you notice how the demand is increasing Worldwide?

Did you notice how many internet users were in 2000 and how many are now and how many will be in 2020 ?

You would have to go back further than 2000...more like 1998.

one thing:

some really, really successful Chinese websites use NNNNNN.com, NNNNNNN.nets, and more

So does this mean that there is value in every 7N.com, .net combination?

I think not...

At the end of the day, the only thing that determines quality/crappy letters is the ease with which you can find an end user. You might have to sit on xjqw.com for 12 months, and might just need 2 months to find a buyer for abr.com

Thats it, IMO. As a reseller, if I have the money to renew names, I wouldn't drop any (unless they happen to be extra crappy names) because you never know who might take a fancy to it. But as a reseller, I also need to make wise decisions about my portfolio, and keep the cash flow going with sales constantly. I can't do that if my portfolio is full of domains that sell to end users once in 18 months.

I think you are pushing crap letters in a crappy set (LLLL & LLLLL) and you're just not getting it. Buy every god damn combination if you must. You're beating a dead horse. It's already said and done: crap letters get you crap prirces. Or locate Xian Quan Zang Hong and sell it to him.

Jesus ****ing Christ already!
