The "Domain Butterfly Effect" causes many people to waste money .... and registrars to make lotsa money - it will always be the case.

I remember when engineering.org sold for $198,000 which caused people to register hundreds (thousands more likely) of worthless domains playing off the "engineering" keyword. It really is comical but kinda sad to see people race off to their registrar before letting their brain cells kick in. Now I'm not saying every "butterfly effect domain registration" is worthless..... just 99.99% of them.

PS - I may have done it myself but refuse to admit it publicly - OOPS!

I've fallen guilty before.

A .com sold for $5K once so I hand registered the .net.

Not a single offer. :S

Sad but true. I have said it before, too many people are followers (pizza-pizza.cc anyone ).
You need to be ahead of the game, the trailers just lose :)

So its like the stock market - if you hear a rumor, and rush out to buy stock,
by the time you buy it the markets have already adjusted to the news.

Either you read the future, or you spend more and buy existing, quality domains.

As this has become an 'honesty' thread then yes I must hold my hand up and say I have done it also! :shy:

The real pity is when newbies are advised to 'read, read, and read some more' that they will most probably quickly skip over this thread and they will make the same mistakes we all have! Human nature I suppose, a bit like telling your kids there is no point getting drunk, just like your parents told us, but guess what, most of us have had to find out the hard way.

Exactly! And also good advice, dont be registering domains if you have had a few drinks. Not that I am admitting to anything. :) But it is possible that alcohol might impair one's spelling abilty.

I think I've registered my best domains for the cheapest prices when I'm drunk.... being sober is the problem :)

Is this like the effect of being in a bar, and with each drink the people in the bar seem to all get better looking?

I tell you what, have some drinks and then buy some of my domains. :)

Triplecreditreport.com just sold for $260,000 so how many domains have been registered because of this sale so far in the last day or so? Did you do any?

Ok - I will admit I probably (definitely) would not have registered that domain if I knew it was available so I would have been out of the money so.......

TripleCreditReport.com is a three-word domain. The 'rules of domaining' say multi word is bad, handreg is bad, lacking traffic is bad, etc... those are the 'rules', supposedly.

To answer your question, yes, I registered one, its a FIVE word domain and that is a lot of words! It is: AllInOneCreditReports.com.

Is it worthless? Or does it have potential?
