Ok, I'll be honest. I use estibot more times a day then i use the toilet, never had an issue. Godaddy can be buggy at times but nothing to serious.
The domain in question (ListenToFree.com) IMO Sucks! (just my opinion). I don't see why anyone would be interested in this domain. It must have been a coincidence or some type of error within godaddy.. I hardly beleive that you got "mugged".

P.S. BidNo, Re: DnSalePrice.com and Vurr.com: those are two good services you offer - people should check them out.

Thanks wordplay. DnSalePrice.com now indexes well over a half billion dollars in domain sales.

Great analogy. :) Even with the Snowe job, er, bill, floating the US federal government the industry still didn't

Yep, the Snowe job :))) would be a prime example.

As Douglas Adams would have put it, "that's just normal paranoia".

I would Stay Away from estibot.com as I think you are right. I did an experiment and typed in a semi-good (but not good enough to reg) name in estibot and then checked on godaddy - it was available. This was 2 hours ago. I just checked and now the .com AND .net are reg'd......... I believe a dnf member created estibot ???

The question is why would I reg a name that's not good enough for you to reg, especially now that domain tasting is no longer allowed?

My guess is they were actually regged before you checked them with Estibot, and the zone files or the Estibot cache just hadn't been updated yet with the new status.

Anywhere between 50,000 - 100,000 domains are run through Estibot by its users every day. I have neither the time nor the inclination to scan the logs and I do not sell, distribute or publish any logs anywhere.

Estibot lives or dies by providing domainers the data they need in their domain research and stealing domainer's hand reg ideas would ensure a quick demise of the service and would be a rather idiotic business idea. Estibot has thousands of registered subscribers and some even pay a small monthly fee, which I consider a vote of confidence from a reasonably large pool of domainers.

In the history of the service, tens of millions of domain names have been run through Estibot, and I believe this is the third time this allegation has been made, so it's not a very alarming rate.

Furthermore, many of the tools provided by Estibot are specifically designed for the very purpose of providing subscribers with tools to find available domain names so it would be rather counterproductive to snatch those names.

Whenever someone has an available name snatched from under their noses, it's either front running or pure coincidence. Any whois server can be sniffed by unscrupulous domainers. I always advice to grab a good domain name immediately upon finding it because the next minute it may be gone. It's a cutthroat business and this is a case of you snooze you lose.

Personally glad to see that rumor put to bed. Sadly ethics can not always be assumed in this business.

Esa, for the record, my intent in starting this thread was not to blame your service, or any service in particular - my original question was if such services can be hacked-into.

It's all irrelevant now, because (as stated in a previous post) I believe my case was a coincidence.

And, by the way, thanks for your good services - I use them often.

I love that :) ...can I use that on the site?

Thanks for the follow up guys. I've always been somewhat proud of putting a lot of effort into running a service that domainers can use with confidence, respecting everyone's privacy, and providing useful tools to domainers, so direct allegations such as those made by Picassoface (that border on libel) kinda get my blood boiling, especially when they don't contact me personally first.

A word to the wise: If you have a very serious complaint about an established service, it's a good idea to contact the operators personally first before publishing crap on forums.

Domain availability check at godaddy is just not reliable (not real-time). If you use godaddy don't complain that you were unable to register domains that weren't available in the first place :)

Yes godaddy can be buggy.. The other day I was searching for a .cn domain and godaddy showed it to be available... I reached till payment page and was about to click pay... I just checked through other whois and found that domain was registered for past six months..
