I did a website (in the past) for someone - they went to a new web designer.

(This is the same one where they demanded to have my login information w/ GoDaddy and I said "hell no" - so we decided to point the DNS since I wouldn't give them the domains with the client's permission).

The domains are up for renewal next month and I've now sent two emails to the client - with no response.

What should I do if the time comes and she hasn't responded yet? Renew them and make the DNS null (to make her respond)? Be nice and renew them hoping she reimburses me for them or just cancel them and let her deal with them though the drop service?

You have two options...

Renew and it becomes yours.

Do not renew and let them go.It is not your respondsibility to pay her bills and on the other hand there have been many designers/hosts who keep clients names when they default.

Send one more final email and say...
I will renew one more year, but, will change NS until pay up.

They can surely afford renewal fee if they can afford designer.
Perhaps they are NOT getting your email for some unknown reason?

I don't know about that - this is an email she and I used as constant communication since last April but I did dig up an older email (from her ISP) so I sent the email to that address also.

Luckily, the domain expires late next month, I just like to get on top of these things so I don't have to think about them at the last minute.

Pick up the phone :)

Agree, you can resolve a dispute much better by phone than you can by email. I would send a email notice of the expiring domains before you make the call though.

Phone and/or certified letter.

Edit: OR!!!! Push it to the new developer, and let it be their nightmare :)

Pick up the phone :)

I'll see if my wife has her phone number. Unfortunately our transactions were either in person or though email (99% were her sending me 15-40 pictures to rename, resize, then upload to the site).

The client just got back to me - she is setting up an account with GoDaddy for me to push the domains to.
