You all helped me name it, now I need several of you to help write it! The preview version of Domain Name Journal is now online at www.dnjournal.com. I set out with the goal of providing the domain name business with a "trade paper" of its own. The framework is now in place but it needs to have life breathed into it by a group of volunteers willing to share their expertise in the many different areas the site will cover. It will help raise your profile in the industry (and your business's profile too).

I need writers for columns about each of the major TLDs, another column on country code TLD's and one on TLD registration trends. Also people who can write about developing web sites, search engine optimization (page rank), type-in domains and affiliate programs (there will be a separate column on each).

Another important position will be writing the Players column in the People section. This needs to be someone who has been in the business for some time and has a lot of personal contacts. The column will feature short items on domain industry people and what they are doing. There will also be a monthly Cover Story which will usually be a profile of a major figure in this business. I want to emphasize people as that is an area that has not gotten much coverage. I hope to help everyone get to know each other better as individuals.

Everyone can help with The Low Down page. That is basically an industry gossip page with many short items. When you come across an item that would fit, just email it to us ([email protected]). We also want guest editorialists and will need people to debate both sides of a hot topic in the Face Off column.

There will also be a Resources page and Classified Ads (free to those who will exchange website links to us).

I would like to invite you to visit the site and browse through it to get a better idea of what it's all about. If it looks like something you would like to be involved with, just drop me an email or PM letting me know what you would like to write about. Anyone who wants to submit a column may do so and we will use the best of those. I would like to have more than one person writing on the various subjects so we will have a variety of perspectives. I have seen enough good writing in this forum to know there are enough qualified people to pull it off.

The different elements in the magazine will be updated at different times. The Cover Stories will run for a month, the columns for a week or two, The Low Down and News pages will be changing daily.

I would also like your feedback on the site layout and content. If there are some other specific areas that should have their own columns let me know!

If you put everything in your first issue, you'll have nothing to write about after a few months.:D
Fortunately, there will be always an advertising section, I guess.

I wish you a lot of success, partly because I could say one day
watching TV: I know the bastard, that's Duke.:D

Thanks for your note options. I don't think there is any danger of running out of material. There is never a shortage of posts here. There are a lot of people to do Cover stories on and people will never tire of debating the various TLD's.

It's nice and bright.
Consider a cartoon strip, with candid conversation about
name appraisals, the awful names and good one's using some
of the DNF members avatars as the characters in the strips.
Although, I don't have one, you create one for me in the strip
for the idea. I would like to participate in this area.

Great idea! Duke

I thought about a cartoon big But didn't know how to implement it. I think it is a good idea. Lets look into that.

Looks good, but haven't had chance to read it all yet.

How about a password protected adult section - I believe that adult names are not traded or used in the same way as non-adult.

I like it a lot, good luck with it - and where's your cape???

I'll contribute a few things about dot coms - seems some people have turned to the other TLDs so they might have historical significance sooner or later ;)

Its very impressive Duke. I truly wish you all the success with it and would do whatever I could to help along the way (though I can't boast of any of my technical skills). I'm pretty sure you've a winner at your hands.....:)

P.S. Little confused since the classified section seems to list "Business.com" for sale at $50K/OBO; is that correct?

:) - No, text on the site is just placeholder filler text until we start generating content. Names numbers etc are fictitious for the most part on this preview version. I just want to let people see the framework is in place so they will hopefully join in the project. I would like to debut for real Jan. 1 but it will all depend on how many people answer the call to contribute. I can't write it all myself (and it would be incredibly boring if I did)!

I would appreciate that Dotcomster. Though writing experience is always helpful it is not critical. I can always clean things up a bit so no need to be shy about contributing.

Not a lot to read DP - The text right now is just filler text repeated throughout the site as a placeholder until original content is generated. It does allow you to see what we intend to do though. The adult area is such a specialized field I think someone should do a separate publication about it - just as in the real media world where adult publications are separate entities from general interest publications.

Very diplomatic reply :D

I expect if it was a separate publication, it would soon end up full of pictures and link lists with no real content. It would be useful to have a porn free trade paper though. How will you handle adult names then. Mine range through

darktriangle.com
getsomepics.com
fetishfacts.com
pistonsex.com
used****s.com

where will you draw the line.

Duke, you really did a terrific job with the start of the publication Domain Name Journal at http://www.dnjournal.com! I am jealous in the way you not only identified the market (domain name industry), but also developed a professional looking site!

It looks terrific – I wish you all the luck.

Someone could definitely do a porn-free trade paper if they wanted to. Adult video doesn't get any coverage in Entertainment Weekly, but they do have AVN (Adult Video News). I see us in the same way. We will be EW. Someone else can by AVN if they want to be. I don't see any problems with specific domain names. Our categories and columns are about much broader areas,, TLD's, Developing, Affiliates, etc. If an adult name legitimately crops up in general domain news and requires the use of asterisks (as in your example above) we can always do that. In general, the whole area will be outside our focus, so I don't see any problem.
